On August 18, the ceremony to receive the Royal Decree appointing the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand was solemnly held in Bangkok with the participation of hundreds of leading Thai officials and politicians, including former Thai Prime Minister Sretha Thavisin, who was dismissed by the Thai Constitutional Court on August 14, 2024.

The Royal Decree appointing the Prime Minister on August 16 said that the King of Thailand Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua agreed to the election of Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra as Prime Minister during the session of the House of Representatives. According to the Thai Constitution, the King has appointed Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra as Prime Minister of Thailand.
At the ceremony, new Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, after performing royal rituals, took the oath of office.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said: “Being appointed as Prime Minister is the highest honor and pride for me. I, my family and the Pheu Thai Party … will do our best to carry out my duties. As Prime Minister, for the best interests of the country and the people, in accordance with the wishes of the Royal Family and the spirit of the Thai Constitution. I would like to thank the Members of Parliament, who were elected by the people, for entrusting, trusting and giving me the opportunity to be the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand.

As Prime Minister, I feel a great responsibility to move Thailand forward, overcome difficulties, solve hot issues, solve problems in life to improve the quality of life of the Thai people.
In the remaining three years of the current government term, I, as the head of the executive (highest) agency, with a spirit of open cooperation, receptiveness, and listening to opinions, look forward to working with the legislative agency to develop the country (Thailand) forward steadily.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra also declared that this is a mission that is not just for anyone and must be achieved by the united strength of all people. The Thai Prime Minister also pledged to use every inch of Thailand, hoping that all members of society would cooperate to decide the future of Thailand, making Thailand a country where every citizen is equal and happy forever.
Notably attending the ceremony was former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the 23rd Prime Minister of Thailand and father of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
