According to information from the Central Dermatology Hospital, the hospital's doctors are treating a child with severe psoriasis due to incorrect home treatment.

Specifically, a 23-month-old boy in Nghe An was admitted to the hospital with sores all over his body and scabs covering his head. The baby's mother said that since he was 3 months old, the baby had been showing signs of itching, red skin with tiny spots. Initially, the skin lesions were on the neck and back, then spread throughout the body, causing the baby to often cry, lose sleep, and feel itchy.

The family used many types of medicinal leaves for bathing and applied unknown ingredients to the child's skin, but the condition did not improve.

In the past 3 months, the disease has progressed more seriously. The child's head is red and sore, forming scaly patches. The child's hands, feet, and face also have dense red patches, ulcerated and oozing pus, so he was taken to the doctor.

Here, the doctors diagnosed that the child had psoriasis, severe enough to be treated with topical medication. After 1 day in the hospital, the child's condition improved, the skin lesions were less red and began to peel.

However, according to doctors, children still need to continue to monitor their response to the drug to determine whether long-term treatment is needed.

Previously, doctors at the Pediatrics Department - Cao Bang General Hospital also admitted a 4-month-old patient with red, ulcerated skin all over his body, bleeding, and oozing fluid...

According to the family, when the baby was 1 month old, his body had a rash, so the family used boiled and cooled leaves to bathe the baby. After bathing, the baby had a rash all over his body, the family continued to buy medicine to apply but it did not help. After examination and testing, the baby was diagnosed with: Sepsis after bathing with leaves.

Be careful when bathing children with leaves.

In fact, using boiled leaves to bathe newborn babies is a very familiar practice among the people. However, bathing babies with leaves is something that needs to be considered and carefully considered because it has many unpredictable risks.

According to Dr. Hoang Thi Phuong, Head of the Department of Daytime Inpatient Treatment, Central Dermatology Hospital, dermatologists do not recommend that patients bathe with leaves but use shower gels or moisturizing soaps to soften the skin. Leaves may contain irritating ingredients that make the skin redder, which is one of the factors that make the disease worse.

For young children, especially newborns, the skin is very thin, the skin structure is not yet stable, so it is very vulnerable to damage, allergies and infections. Most skin diseases in newborns are caused by bacteria attacking from the outside. Meanwhile, leaves that grow on bushes, roadsides, and rice fields are contaminated with bacteria, even pesticides, which are very difficult to wash off, even when boiled, the pathogens are not completely eliminated.

Especially in the hot season, improper bathing with leaves can cause children to have secondary infections that can lead to blood poisoning, which is life-threatening.

According to doctors, not all cases of bathing with leaves cause skin reactions. Some folk remedies for bathing children such as bathing with bitter melon, fresh tea leaves, lemon baths or some other types of leaves are very good for children.

However, not all babies can adapt to these types of leaf and fruit juices. Therefore, you should clean your baby's skin daily with warm water or antibacterial shower gels with a suitable pH to avoid causing irritation or allergies to your baby's skin.

To avoid harming children when bathing, experts recommend not to arbitrarily use herbal water to bathe children. If you see an unusual red rash on your child's skin that shows signs of spreading over a large area, you should take your child to a medical facility for examination and timely treatment to avoid possible complications.
