Parvizdzhon Umarbaev and Nuriddin Khamrokulov took turns scoring to bring a historic victory to Tajikistan in their first time participating in the tournament.

With this victory, Tajikistan has squeezed through a narrow gap to enter the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup because in the match at the same time, China lost to Qatar with a score of 0-1.

After 3 matches, Qatar topped Group A with 9 absolute points - scoring 5 goals and conceding none.

Tajikistan ranked 2nd with 4 points, above China (2 points) and Lebanon (1 point).

With 2 points in hand, the Chinese team has not been eliminated yet, but the chance of this team going on is very slim in the race for a play-off ticket.

In the ranking of the third-best teams, China is above Oman, Syria and Palestine, but these three teams have not played their final matches.

In the final round, the three teams Oman, Syria and Palestine only have to face opponents that are rated lower. Oman meets Kyrgyzstan, Syria faces India while Palestine "faces" Hong Kong (China).

Thus, up to this point, the 1/8 round of the 2023 Asian Cup has determined 6 participating teams, including Qatar, Tajikistan (Group A), Australia (Group B), Iran (Group C), Iraq (Group D) and Saudi Arabia (Group F).
