The festival, which is taking place from June 20 to 23 (May 15 to 18 of the lunar calendar), is an opportunity for people to express their respect for the sea, pray for favorable weather, bountiful crops and for fishing boats to catch lots of shrimp and fish.
Cau Ngu Festival originates from the worship of Whale - the sacred sea god revered by fishermen, an indispensable part of the spiritual life of coastal people.
The four-day festival begins with the Nam Hai Whale Festival. The boat procession carries the Whale back from the ocean amid the sounds of drums, gongs, and the welcome of the entire village.
The ceremony of entering the palace and the Ba Trao singing that follows further enhance the solemn atmosphere of the festival.

After the solemn ceremony, the festival takes place with many exciting games imbued with the breath of the ocean such as basket boat racing, basket shaking...
