Spotify says the translated versions, powered by OpenAI's newly released speech generation technology, will mimic the way the originals speak and will sound more natural than traditional dubbing.
The company also worked with other podcasters including Monica Padman, Bill Simmons and Steven Bartlett to develop the feature.
Spotify said voice translations will be available for Spanish, French and German. The company has spent heavily on its podcast business in recent years, hoping that higher engagement will bring in more advertisers.
But that has pushed up the company's operating costs. In addition, businesses are also limiting advertising spending due to rising interest rates and high inflation.
