On September 4, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City coordinated with the Department of Physical Training and Sports to organize the 3rd National Composite Hull Racing Championship in 2023. The tournament took place on Cai Khe canal, Cai Khe ward, Ninh Kieu district.
Sharing at the event, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City Truong Cong Quoc Viet said: "Composite hulls are a means of transport with typical characteristics of the river region. Nowadays, the means of transport are not only used to transport people and light goods for work on the river but are also commonly used to serve tourists and tourists. The city maintains the organization of the Race to preserve, conserve and promote the unique cultural features of this type of vehicle and create a useful and healthy playground for people in the river region."
This year's tournament has the competition of nearly 70 athletes from 14 units: Dam Doi district - Ca Mau, Nam Can district - Ca Mau, Giong Rieng district - Kien Giang, Tan Hung district - Long An, Lap Vo district - Dong Thap, District 5 - Ho Chi Minh City and 8 districts of Can Tho city.
Athletes compete in the 600m distance, using a 7HP gasoline engine, a 5.9m long composite hull and AB propellers.
After intense and dramatic competitions among the athletes, the results showed that two athletes from Phong Dien district, Can Tho city, Tran Bao Hieu, won first prize and Le Van Thai won second prize. Athlete Do Thanh Nghiem from Thot Not district (Can Tho city) won third prize and athlete Le Minh Bang from Phong Dien district won fourth prize.
The first prize winner will receive 50 million VND, the second prize is 30 million VND and the third prize is 20 million VND, with each prize being a Genesis-GS210 gasoline engine (7HP), composite shell, and AB stainless steel propeller.
The National Composite Tire Racing Championship is a prestigious major racing tournament, formerly known as the Mekong Delta Composite Tire Racing Championship, held continuously from 2015 to 2019.
Since 2020, the tournament has been upgraded to the National Composite Tire Racing Championship hosted by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City. The tournament attracts top athletes in the composite tire racing category to participate and a large number of people and tourists to watch and cheer.
