The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that they will develop a plan for enrolling 6th grade students in accordance with the city's reality, including calculating and proposing a plan to organize a capacity assessment survey to enroll 6th grade students in the 2025-2026 school year for some secondary schools with learning needs many times higher than the enrollment quota.

Today (January 8), the Ministry of Education and Training announced the regulations on junior high school and high school admissions, including the content of the regulations on junior high school admissions: "Every year, junior high school admissions are organized once; junior high school admissions are conducted by the selection method; the selection criteria are specifically guided by the Department of Education and Training, ensuring fair, objective, transparent selection, suitable to the actual situation in the locality". This regulation makes thousands of parents of students in Ho Chi Minh City whose children are preparing to enter grade 6 at some "key" schools worried that next year there will be no entrance exam.
In response to the concerns of parents, a leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training shared that, according to regulations, after the Ministry of Education and Training issues the Regulations on Secondary School and High School Admissions, the Department of Education and Training will issue a document advising the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to issue a plan for primary school admissions for the 2025-2026 school year, including a plan for grade 6 admissions. It is expected that the Ho Chi Minh City primary school admissions plan for the 2025-2026 school year will be issued in early March 2025.
The policy of the education and training sector is that enrollment plans will be developed and implemented in a spirit of not causing disruption, ensuring fairness and benefits for all students.
This leader shared that, according to the regulations, the Ministry of Education and Training allows the Department of Education and Training to decide on the admission criteria for grade 6. Thus, the admission can be based on criteria such as the test scores of primary school students or the survey scores.
In cases where the number of students applying for admission is many times higher than the enrollment quota for grade 6, such as Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School or some schools in District 7, Thu Duc City, Hoc Mon District, the Department of Education and Training will study and propose to the City People's Committee to apply for permission to implement an appropriate form of enrollment for grade 6.
It is known that in the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City has 6 schools conducting 6th grade enrollment using a competency assessment test, including: Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1); Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School (Hoc Mon District); Hoa Lu Secondary School, Binh Tho Secondary School and Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School (Thu Duc City); Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School (District 7).
