Saigon Co.op launches fundraising campaign to support people in the Northern provinces

The Trade Union of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Trading Cooperatives ( Saigon Co.op ) mobilized its staff to join hands to support the people of the provinces affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi), in the spirit of practical contributions, no matter how small, from union members and workers, which will help the people of the North overcome difficulties. In recent days, storm No. 3 (Yagi) - one of the strongest storms in the East Sea in the past 30 years - has caused severe damage to the northern coastal provinces and many neighboring areas. According to the report at the Conference between the Government Standing Committee and localities affected by storm No. 3, on solutions to overcome the consequences, support people and businesses to stabilize their lives, restore production and business activities, and promote growth held on the morning of September 15, storm No. 3 caused extremely heavy damage to people and property of the people and the State. Pursuant to the Call of the City Labor Federation to join hands and contribute to support the people in the North affected by storm No. 3; Pursuant to Official Dispatch No. 8461/MTTQ-BTT of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee on supporting the people in the Northern provinces affected by storm No. 3 in 2024; Pursuant to the direction of the Standing Committee of the City Labor Federation on implementing Official Dispatch No. 1574-CV/TU of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, on directing support for the provinces affected by storm No. 3 and the approval policy of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Union in the submission No. 21-TTr/CĐLH dated September 11, 2024 of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union of Cooperatives on mobilizing union members, workers and affiliated grassroots unions to join hands to support the people in the provinces affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi).

Faced with the enormous damage that the people in the North are suffering, especially the loss of lives, homes and property, in the flag-raising ceremony on Monday morning, September 16, the Standing Committee of the Trade Union of the Vietnam Cooperatives Union called on all union members and workers of affiliated units in the system to promote the spirit of solidarity, actively respond to the policies of Party committees, authorities and the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels to join hands to support the people in the North to overcome difficulties, overcome the consequences of storm No. 3 to soon stabilize their lives.

6.jpg Accordingly, the Standing Committee of the Union of Cooperatives will mobilize on a voluntary basis from union members and employees in the system (excluding units in the northern provinces affected by storm No. 3) to support people in the northern provinces affected by storm No. 3 in 2024 from September 12 to September 22, 2024. Based on the mobilization results, the Union of Cooperatives will summarize and submit to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in 2 phases (September 17, 2024 and September 23, 2024). Speaking at the program, Comrade Vu Anh Khoa - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors shared: “With our affection, responsibility and prestige, Saigon Co.op has immediately mobilized the entire system to focus resources to support the distribution and logistics system in the North, increasing the source of essential goods, especially food, foodstuffs, vegetables, fruits, consumer goods at the most stable prices to the Northern region. In particular, before the storm, the Northern units proactively increased their stock of goods by 3 times compared to normal days. Many essential goods were supplied by the unit below cost price, ensuring food hygiene and safety. Despite the power outage and difficult living conditions, some of our employees slept at the points of sale and distribution centers to continue their mission of being ready to supply goods to people at any time. Promoting the spirit of cooperatives, supporting people in the most difficult situations, so that people can access essential food and quickly return to their daily lives." 5.jpg Therefore, as officers, employees and workers of Saigon Co.op, we join hands to strengthen the people of the North to overcome the difficult period, overcome the damage with concrete actions as the Prime Minister emphasized "We work for the love of the nation, the meaning of compatriots" and called on compatriots and comrades to "Work twice as hard", "Working during the day is not enough, take advantage of working at night" to contribute to overcoming the consequences of super typhoon No. 3".
