DNVN - On March 11, 2025, the southern pig market recorded a slight increase of VND 1,000/kg in the two provinces of Hau Giang and Soc Trang. Currently, the price of pigs nationwide fluctuates between VND 75,000 - 83,000/kg.

Pig price in the North

Pig price on March 9, 2025: Sharp increase in the North, sudden decrease in the South

Recorded on the morning of March 11, the price of live pigs in the North did not change significantly compared to the previous day. The market in this region is commonly in the range of 76,000 VND/kg to 78,000 VND/kg.

The highest regional price was recorded in Bac Giang, Nam Dinh, Thai Nguyen and Hanoi, reaching 78,000 VND/kg.

Meanwhile, Yen Bai, Lao Cai and Ninh Binh are localities with lower prices, maintained at 76,000 VND/kg.

The provinces of Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Vinh Phuc and Tuyen Quang currently have live pig prices fluctuating around 77,000 VND/kg.

Pig price in Central Highlands

The price of live pigs in the Central Highlands region continues to be stable today. Currently, the transaction price is mainly in the range of 75,000 VND/kg to 77,000 VND/kg.

The localities with the lowest prices in the region include Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Khanh Hoa, with a selling price of VND75,000/kg.

Binh Dinh and Nghe An have slightly higher prices at 77,000 VND/kg.

In particular, the two provinces of Lam Dong and Dak Lak, in the Central Highlands region, have prices significantly higher than those in the Central region, at VND82,000/kg and VND79,000/kg, respectively.

In Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan, the price of live pigs is also quite high, reaching 80,000 VND/kg and 82,000 VND/kg respectively.

Pig price in the South

Unlike the stability in the other two regions, the southern pig market has seen some slight adjustments. Most localities still keep prices stable, ranging from VND80,000/kg to VND82,000/kg.

Dong Nai continues to be the province with the highest pork price in the region, reaching 83,000 VND/kg.

Notably, Hau Giang and Soc Trang recorded an increase of VND 1,000/kg, raising the price of live pigs in these two localities to VND 81,000/kg.

According to experts, the live hog market may continue to maintain stability in the coming days, however, some areas are still likely to have slight price adjustments depending on fluctuations in consumption demand.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong, Chairman of the Vietnam Animal Husbandry Association, shared, "The high price of live pigs is due to the complicated development of the epidemic, the sharp decrease in the supply of live pigs, not to mention the phenomenon of 'hoarding pigs' waiting for further price increases by farmers and traders", according to Dai Doan Ket Newspaper.

The Chairman of the Vietnam Livestock Association said that by the end of March, when the pig herd is restored and supply is more abundant, the price of live pigs will return to a reasonable level. At the same time, when pork prices increase, consumers tend to switch to other foods such as chicken, eggs and poultry, so a major crisis in the pork market is unlikely.

Statistics show that as of February, the total pig herd nationwide reached over 30 million, up 3.7% over the same period last year. The current supply shortage is mainly localized, due to the high demand for meat during the Lunar New Year, causing businesses and households to increase sales, leading to a decrease in the total herd.

Mr. Duong Tat Thang, Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, commented, “The increase in pork prices in the context of the ongoing epidemic has forced many consumers to adjust their consumption habits. The stability of the pork market is what both sellers and buyers expect.”

However, according to Mr. Thang, although the price of live pigs tends to increase, this situation will not last long because farmers and businesses are actively restocking their herds.

“From around the end of March to the beginning of April, when supply increases again, the price of live pigs will gradually cool down,” said Director Duong Tat Thang.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine also said that in order to ensure a stable supply of pork, this unit is focusing on controlling and preventing diseases in livestock farming. In addition, providing enough breeding stock will help people restore and increase their herds effectively.
