The Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration has just sent a document to the People's Committee of Binh Duong province requesting to inspect and review inland waterway ports that are no longer in operation to complete the closure and clearance dossiers according to regulations.

For existing inland waterway ports that are being exploited and operated but violate the provisions of the law on land, planning, and announcement of water areas and land areas that are not in accordance with the law, the People's Committee of Binh Duong province shall consider and give instructions on temporarily extending the operation for a period of no more than 24 months so that relevant agencies, organizations and individuals can complete the documents and procedures according to the law.
According to the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration, this measure aims to minimize negative impacts on society and contribute to local socio-economic development.
Previously, in October 2024, the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration conducted an inspection of contents related to the management of inland waterway ports in Binh Duong province.
Specifically, through checking the probability of the dock records of localities in Binh Duong province, 100% of docks do not have planning.
Inland waterway ports are licensed to operate and re-announced to operate on land that is not traffic land, not ensuring the principles of land use according to the provisions of the Land Law; in addition, there are some ports that do not have land use right certificates; There are no related records and have not yet implemented the agreement on technical parameters of inland waterway ports on national inland waterway routes.
Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee has not yet issued regulations on leasing water surface associated with inland waterway ports.
The human resources performing state management functions are mainly part-time and have not received specialized training related to the inland waterway sector, leading to difficulties in state management as well as in assessing qualified and unqualified wharves for continued extension of operating licenses according to regulations.
