The Provincial People's Committee worked with WWF - Vietnam and the International Landscape Restoration Fund on forest restoration and biodiversity conservation.

Today, December 3, Acting Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong chaired a working session with the World Wildlife Fund in Vietnam (WWF - Vietnam) and the International Landscape Restoration Fund (LRF) to discuss forest restoration and biodiversity conservation in the province.

Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong presented souvenirs to the working delegation of WWF - Vietnam and the Landscape Restoration Fund (LRF).

From 2022 to present, WWF has accompanied and supported Quang Tri province in the management and development of sustainable forests with FSC certification; developing livelihoods and value chains associated with biodiversity conservation, climate change, and the environment with a total non-governmental aid implemented by WWF in Quang Tri of more than 1.4 million USD.

Accordingly, the activities implemented in Quang Tri include the award of 10,000 USD by the multi-stakeholder forum to maintain FSC certification for ecosystem services in Chenh Venh village, Huong Phung commune, Huong Hoa district and the projects: "Economic coffee production and natural forest improvement in Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province"; "Promoting sustainable supply chains, empowering communities, improving forest resilience and biodiversity, sharing cross-border knowledge and experience - phase 7.2 in Quang Tri province"; "Sustainable urban food"; "Workshop to promote the energy transition towards the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 in Quang Tri province".

At the meeting, Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong discussed with the delegation of WWF - Vietnam and LRF some contents on agricultural, farmer and rural development to 2030, vision to 2045 associated with environmental protection, improving the ability to adapt to climate change, and preventing natural disasters.

Research and implement projects to develop value chains of planted forest timber and non-timber forest products such as: tung, rattan, bamboo, acacia, medicinal herbs under the forest canopy through the role of local enterprises and cooperatives to manage sustainable production and business activities.

Building production models adapted to climate change for areas affected by saltwater intrusion or summer-autumn crop areas without irrigation water requiring crop restructuring of about 2,500 hectares. Project on Sustainable Development of Aquatic and Seafood Resources.

Strengthen prevention of illegal exploitation, hunting, fishing, and trading of wild and rare animals and plants; strictly control wildlife breeding activities. Develop green growth models and circular agriculture models.

Coordinate the implementation of a number of contents on environmental protection, ecological restoration and biodiversity conservation, combining the exploitation and promotion of specific ecological values ​​such as: upgrading the two nature reserves of Bac Huong Hoa and Dakrong into national parks; planning the transition of the Con Co Island Marine Reserve and the Ru Linh Landscape Protection Area. Establishing a new Con Co Island Special-use Forest Landscape Protection Area.

Study on the possibility of establishing Vinh Thai - Kim Thach Marine Protected Area (underground hill); planning the transition of the biodiversity corridor connecting Dakrong and Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserves...

The Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also assigned the departments, branches and sectors to continue to closely coordinate with WWF-Vietnam and LRF to specify and propose projects for implementation in the province. At the same time, he hopes to continue to receive support and companionship from the organizations in the next phase.

Mr. Stefan Marco Schwager, Chairman of LRF and members of the delegation highly appreciated the results achieved by Quang Tri province in sustainable forest management and development, livelihood development, value chains associated with biodiversity conservation, climate change, and the environment. These results are an important basis for sustainable development cooperation between the parties in the coming time, especially contributing to the effective implementation of the signed commitments between Quang Tri and WWF - Vietnam in 2023 towards the goal of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
