For many years now, the activity of composing literary and artistic works on the theme of soldiers, especially the Vietnam People's Navy in the task of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland, has become a strong movement not only in the Navy but also in most provinces and cities across the country. In September 2024, the Award for Literary and Artistic Composition on the theme of the Vietnam People's Navy in the task of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland for the period 2021-2025 launched by the Navy Political Department has created a profound influence in the socio-political life in general and the Navy in particular, attracting thousands of professional and non-professional authors to compose on this theme. The award is one of the key cultural and artistic activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Navy (May 7, 1955 - May 7, 2025), to honor and reward collectives and individuals with outstanding literary and artistic works on the topic of the Vietnam People's Navy in the period 2021-2015.
The Organizing Committee of the Award received 1,157 works from authors nationwide, composed in the period from 2021 to 2025, submitted to participate in the contest. The works belong to 4 main literary and artistic genres, including 335 songs, 711 art photos, 87 collections of literary works printed into books by 92 authors (including 19 short stories, 33 poetry collections, 15 epic poems, 20 memoirs and articles), and 24 cinematographic works.
At the award ceremony, the Navy awarded prizes to 55 outstanding works with high ideological content and artistic and aesthetic values. Of which, there were 7 A prizes, 13 B prizes, 20 C prizes, 15 Encouragement prizes and awarded Certificates of Merit to 17 groups and 12 individuals with outstanding achievements in composing and mobilizing the creation, propaganda and promotion of literary and artistic works on the theme of the Vietnam People's Navy in the period 2021-2025.
With the poem set to music as the song "Song on the waves", author Hoang Thi Hanh - a poetry specialist member of the Yen Bai Provincial Literature and Arts Association (author of the lyrics) and Associate Professor, Doctor, Musician Do Hong Quan - Chairman of the Vietnam Literature and Arts Association (author of the music) won the A prize in the art field. The work was performed and announced right at the Award Ceremony.
