The total number of households supported is 111 households (81 poor households, 19 near-poor households, 11 households that have just escaped poverty within 36 months), including: 43 breeding buffaloes for 43 households, 52 breeding cows for 52 households, 160 breeding goats for 16 households.
In On Luong commune, Phu Luong district, in recent years, many households in On Luong commune have benefited from many support programs from the State, including the model of breeding buffaloes. From there, it has helped people escape poverty.
During the project implementation, people were trained and instructed on how to plant grass, build barns, select breeding animals, care for and breed buffaloes, etc. In addition, the team of agricultural extension officers and commune veterinarians regularly vaccinated and instructed on how to prevent hunger for breeding animals.
As one of the poor households in the commune, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huan, a Tay ethnic, (Khau Lai hamlet, On Luong commune, Phu Luong district, Thai Nguyen province) was supported with a breeding buffalo. Ms. Huan happily shared: “In September 2023, my family was given a breeding buffalo. When we received the buffalo, the breeding buffalo was healthy and ate well. During the breeding process, my family was often visited by commune officials to check on the breeding buffalo. In addition, the commune veterinary officers also instructed on how to prevent diseases for livestock. Thanks to that, my family tried to take good care of the buffalo so that it was healthy and developed normally. My family is very happy, I don't know what else to say, I just want to thank the Party and the State for always caring for and supporting the poor, so that we can strive to overcome difficulties and rise up. Similar to Mrs. Huan's family, Mr. Dam Xuan Lenh's family (Tham Trung hamlet, On Luong commune) is also one of the poor households that received support for a breeding buffalo from the capital of the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction.
Mr. Dam Xuan Lenh confided: “At the end of 2023, my family received a breeding buffalo, worth about more than 20 million VND. After receiving the buffalo, I took good care of it according to the instructions of the veterinary staff, so that the buffalo could develop and reproduce well. Thanks to the proper care, the buffalo grew visibly faster. At this rate, it won't be long before the breeding buffalo will increase the family's income."
Not only providing breeding animals, Phu Luong district also organized 12 scientific and technical training courses for 346 households participating in the project on techniques for caring for, preventing and treating diseases for livestock; 2 training courses to improve capacity for 56 households; organized 6 study tours for 140 households and 12 commune-level project management officers.
In addition, households are regularly visited by officials to provide advice on animal care and treatment, and to disseminate regulations and preferential policies for beneficiaries. Thanks to this, many poor households have improved their livestock farming methods to bring about high economic efficiency, have better access to basic social services, and contribute to sustainable poverty reduction.

Through effective implementation of solutions, poverty reduction work in Phu Luong district has achieved positive results, the set goals have been implemented and exceeded the plan. The poverty rate has gradually decreased over the years from 5.39% at the end of 2021 to 2.68% at the end of 2023, an average reduction of 1.36% of poor households per year. In the coming time, the district will continue to strive to reduce the poverty rate to below 2% by the end of 2025, contributing to the completion of the province's overall poverty reduction target.
