Cultural “tree” at SHB

SHB is one of the 5 largest private banks in Vietnam. Can you share about the process of shaping corporate culture at SHB, what are the special things that are different from the market, sir?

In all organizations, corporate culture is an essential part, because without it, an organization cannot truly exist and develop when continuously expanding its structure and personnel. Corporate culture is the backbone that connects all the people of an organization no matter where they are. Conversely, we can also see corporate culture hidden in each individual of the organization.

When each SHB employee, each transaction office, each branch is imbued with and understands the corporate culture, the Bank's identity will spread and leave its mark not only within the staff but also reaching customers, partners, shareholders, investors and the market.

For me, the easiest definition of corporate culture is a tree - an image that is easily seen in everyday life. A tree can be divided into three main parts: roots, trunk, branches, leaves, flowers and fruits.

The roots are the core values ​​of a business, the mission, vision, and beliefs that the business aims for. It is the most important part for the tree to live, exist, and grow.

The trunk and branches are the parts that bring nutrients from the roots up to nourish the whole tree. This can be understood as the behavior, attitude, and expression of the code of conduct of each employee in an organization.

Finally, when we nurture and care for it well, the leaves will surely be green, the tree will blossom and bear sweet fruit - things that we can see with our eyes when corporate culture leads and develops in the organization. It is not only cultural artifacts such as rituals, daily habits, language, corporate image, but also the feelings of employees, customers, and partners.

In your opinion, what makes SHB culture different from other financial institutions? What changes are taking place in the way of building a cohesive culture at SHB?

SHB is an organization with a clear cultural identity, formed and developed over a history of more than 30 years, standing out with the philosophy of originating from the Heart and accompanying the development of the country. Humanistic culture, doing everything "from the Heart" is what SHB people build and accumulate, is the pride of every staff member, and is also the foundation for SHB to conquer success.

After taking on the responsibility of developing corporate culture, the first thing I did was to inherit and summarize cultural values ​​in a clearer, more concise way that bears a distinct identity - SHB's identity.

SHB's corporate culture is clearly defined through 6 core cultural values: "Heart - Trust - Prestige - Knowledge - Intelligence - Vision". The value of "Heart" is taken as the root and center to develop the following values. That is the Heart of dedication to the community, to society, to the country, every action must come from the heart to create good and sustainable values. Originating from the Heart, Building Trust, Establishing Prestige, Accumulating Knowledge, Achieving Intelligence to constantly reach new heights.

I believe that when corporate culture is spread, SHB people will look in the same direction, strive for a common goal and create a strong bond between employees. I often share with everyone that building corporate culture is not the responsibility of me alone, or an individual or department, but of each SHB person. Especially when the bank is on a journey of strong and comprehensive transformation from 2024 to 2028, a solid cultural foundation with consensus and determination will help SHB develop sustainably and reach new heights.

Corporate culture is the bond that binds each person, each generation.

SHB is a bank with a long history, so how to balance between maintaining traditional values ​​and adapting to modern trends in corporate culture?

As I mentioned above, the corporate culture of each organization is like each tree in a forest. Each tree has its own beauty, each organization has its own culture, consistent with its development history and core values. A successful corporate culture is the one that best suits the organization, is adjusted and adapted to change, to the trends of the times but does not change its roots and inherent nature.

At SHB, we inherit the values ​​that have made SHB strong, a leading financial institution in Vietnam and reaching regional levels for more than three decades, to then continue and develop in line with the upcoming period, flexibly in the volatile financial market.

“Heart” has always been the core value that SHB has maintained and will continue to maintain and spread through generations. The word “Heart” also fully encompasses humanitarian and charitable activities; contributions and support to the community and people; and SHB’s companionship in all economic-cultural-social fields, developing with the country into a new era, an era of the Vietnamese people’s rise.

In addition, SHB also regularly organizes events and seminars in the SHBiLOVE journey to connect and spread corporate culture to the entire system.

In the context of comprehensive digitalization and digital transformation, how has the journey of spreading corporate culture at SHB changed and how is technology applied, sir?

Technology has become an indispensable part of every field and profession. With the development of corporate culture, when the young workforce is increasingly large and always desires a flexible and creative working environment, applying technology in activities to spread internal culture and promote innovation becomes inevitable.

At SHB, we have deployed many modern technology tools such as internal communication applications to easily connect departments, leaders and employees. In addition, SHB focuses on employee training through online training programs (e-learning) - including training on 6 core values ​​in particular and corporate culture in general. In particular, we always encourage employees to innovate, create, come up with initiatives, apply technology to system processes, and improve work efficiency.

Digitalization and application of technology in internal cultural dissemination activities and promoting creativity are inevitable, especially in the transformation revolution at SHB.

To spread corporate culture quickly and strongly, SHB deploys online communication campaigns, internal communication activities through channels such as: SHBiLOVE journey, SHB Hub, SHB One House fanpage, Podcast and regularly deploys mini-games, engagement activities on social networking platforms...

In your opinion, where is SHB on the journey of building corporate culture and what is its future development orientation?

I think that not only SHB but all economic organizations and banks are always in the mindset of constantly developing corporate culture through each period.

At SHB, we are continuing on the Journey of Creating and Developing Culture, with a strong commitment to implementing and spreading the core values ​​of 6T "Heart - Trust - Faith - Knowledge - Intelligence - Vision". Corporate Culture Workshops are organized with the participation of the Board of Directors, Directors of Blocks/Divisions/TTs at HO and Directors of Business Units throughout the system, to jointly build a set of Behavioral Standards & Code of Conduct from 6 core values ​​- the foundation of SHB's "unique corporate culture".
