A NASA astronaut suffered health problems shortly after returning to Earth from the International Space Station (ISS).

SpaceX's Crew Dragon module landed in the sea off the coast of Florida (USA) at 3:29 a.m. on October 25 local time (2:29 p.m. Vietnam time), carrying three astronauts from the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and a Russian cosmonaut, according to Reuters.

The American astronauts were Matthew Dominik, Michael Barratt and Jeanette Epps, and the Russian cosmonaut was Alexander Grebenkin. They spent 235 days on the ISS (nearly 8 months), about 2 months longer than a normal mission.

NASA initially said the entire crew was taken to a medical center for further evaluation, but it was unclear whether all four crew members or just one were affected. The agency later said one of the astronauts suffered a medical issue and was airlifted to a hospital in Pensacola, Florida. The person’s identity was not released for privacy reasons.

The remaining three have been discharged and returned to Houston, Texas. "The astronaut who remains at Ascension is in stable condition and is being monitored as a precaution," NASA said, referring to the hospital in Pensacola. It is unclear what the astronaut's symptoms are.

Russian space agency Roscosmos posted a photo on social media showing Mr Grebenkin standing upright and smiling with the caption: "After a space mission and landing, cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin feels great!".

The astronauts’ return was delayed for weeks by two storms that swept across the southeastern United States, where their module was scheduled to land. Crew Dragon separated from the ISS on October 23 and re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere early on October 25, parachuting down into the Gulf of Mexico.

Billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX has a fleet of reusable spacecraft and has flown to the ISS 44 times. This is the fifth flight of the Crew Dragon spacecraft.

SpaceX is the only US company that can fly NASA astronauts to and from the space station. Boeing's Starliner spacecraft is in development but has been plagued by problems over the years.
