Van Mai green dam fish originates from the wild green dam fish breed, living in the cool streams of the high mountains of the Northwest. Van Mai people have domesticated and raised this fish species for many years, creating a fish breed with delicious flavor and excellent quality.

The Van Mai green damselfish has a long, slender body and small green scales. They are a cold-water fish that adapts well to flowing, oxygen-rich water environments. The green damselfish has good disease resistance and can withstand harsh climates, especially the cold climate of the Mai Chau rocky mountains.

Van Mai people raise green dam fish in properly designed ponds, ensuring clean, cool water and continuous flow. The fish are mainly fed industrial pellets, supplemented with natural foods such as vegetables and rice bran. Green dam fish are raised in a pillow, with a rearing time of 3 to 5 years to reach the ideal weight.

Van Mai green dam fish meat is highly praised by gourmets for its rich, delicious flavor, not inferior to wild-caught fish. This fish has high nutritional content, is rich in protein, low in fat, and is very good for health. In particular, fish that have been raised for many years have higher value, bringing an unforgettable culinary experience.

Van Mai people not only focus on quality but also focus on building a brand for green dam fish products. They have established a fish farming cooperative, regularly exchanging experiences, aiming to build products that meet OCOP standards. Mai Chau District People's Committee has also announced and awarded a certificate of protection and certification of "Mai Chau green dam fish" for this product.

The green dam fish farming model in Van Mai has great potential for development. Currently, the green dam fish farming area in Van Mai has reached more than 7 hectares, with an annual output of hundreds of tons. Van Mai green dam fish is present in many restaurants and hotels in Mai Chau district and neighboring provinces.

To continue developing this model, Van Mai people are focusing on expanding farming areas, improving product quality and finding more consumption markets. In addition, the local government is also supporting people with capital, technology and building a brand for Van Mai green damselfish products.

Mr. Kha Van Sanh, Chairman of Van Mai Commune People's Committee, said: "In order to increase income and product value for local agricultural products, the Party Committee and the commune government have focused on maintaining and expanding the area and maintaining the quality of green dam fish, aiming to build it into a key local commodity product. To support people in developing production, the commune has implemented credit and loan programs, opened training courses, study tours, and shared experiences in raising green dam fish for people. Many households have stable incomes and escaped poverty sustainably. From there, the model is effectively replicated, stable markets are sought, and OCOP products are developed, gradually making green dam fish a prominent local specialty."

Van Mai green dam fish is not only an agricultural product but also a valuable culinary gift from the Mai Chau highlands. With its special delicious flavor and OCOP-standard quality, this fish promises to become a prominent specialty, contributing to bringing Hoa Binh cuisine to new heights.
