Known for its “specialty” of sunshine and wind, thanks to the irrigation water source and the hard work of farmers, the arid land of Tuy Phong district is now constantly spreading green colors of fruits such as rice, apples, and dragon fruit. In particular, the role of the District Farmers’ Association focuses on building models of branches, professional farmer associations, cooperatives, and cooperatives. Through contributing to promoting the process of participating in the development of collective economy of farmers, Phong Phu commune is a typical example.
Apples become the main crop in mountainous communes
Not outside the common difficulties of farmers nationwide, the people of Phong Phu mountainous area also have to face the reality of unstable agricultural prices, high input prices, erratic weather, affecting the economic life of the people. The difference is that at that time, the Commune Farmers' Association determined that a truly strong association is a place of refuge for farmer members. Therefore, the Commune Farmers' Association coordinated with local authorities to build collective economic models. Including 3 apple tree professional groups, 1 grapefruit tree professional group, and an apple tree professional association. Mr. Phan Thanh Lam - Head of the apple tree professional group in village 1, Phong Phu commune, when meeting us, shared the joy of farmers when establishing the group, with over 20 members. Mr. Lam said that the members' apple trees are applied in a greenhouse model, using organic and biological fertilizers to ensure quality. The members of the group hope that Phong Phu commune's apple trees will be present in supermarkets and domestic markets, affirming the regional brand.
Mr. Vo Ngoc Tan - Chairman of Phong Phu Commune Farmers' Association acknowledged that through the construction of collective economic models of the branches and groups, the initial effectiveness has been shown. Up to now, most members of the group have grasped the production process and learned a lot of experience. According to the plan, in the near future, Phong Phu commune will make apple trees the main tree of the commune and a local OCOP product.
Promoting the central and core role in the farmers' movement
According to Ms. Nguyen Hoang Bich Loan - Vice President of Tuy Phong District Farmers' Association, the initial success in the association's activities in Phong Phu commune has demonstrated its central and core role in the farmers' movement, strengthening the confidence of its members. On the other hand, the District Association identified the construction of a model of organizing professional branches and professional association groups as an urgent issue in innovating the content and methods of operation of the Association in the current situation according to the motto of focusing on the grassroots level. Because this is the bridge between the grassroots Association and its members, organized by village, neighborhood, cooperative and by profession.
Thereby, aiming to gather like-minded members, together produce and consume quality products according to the value chain. The Associations at all levels have well organized consulting, support and guidance activities to establish and build collective economic models and cooperatives in agriculture. With their efforts, in recent times, the Associations at all levels in the district have focused on implementing and achieving many positive results in building and developing branches and groups of professional Farmers' Associations, thereby creating a foundation for development into cooperative groups and agricultural cooperatives.
However, the reality shows that the current production linkage according to the value chain, connection in production and business, and product consumption for farmer members are not clear and not really effective. Therefore, in order to promote and enhance the role and responsibility of the Farmers' Association in developing the collective economy and building cooperatives, the Farmers' Association of Tuy Phong district said that it will coordinate to organize training, vocational training, transfer of application of scientific and technical advances in production, preservation, processing, and consumption of products, and support business capital. Along with that, it will seek markets and consume products for members in branches and professional farmer associations. Continue to organize well the activities of support, consultation, mobilization, guidance on building and replicating models of branches and professional farmer associations...
After many years of development, Tuy Phong land has now changed positively. The main crops, advantages, thanks to the soil, human efforts, and the active role of farmers' associations at all levels, have been creating unique agricultural economic characteristics of this sunny and windy land.
Tuy Phong District Farmers' Association said that up to now, the district has established 7 professional associations and 13 professional associations with diverse and rich production and business sectors, focusing mainly on the fields of cultivation and animal husbandry. The activities of professional farmers' associations have the advantage of a compact organizational model, moderate number of members, specific, clear and strict operating regulations, appropriate and practical activities, meeting the requirements and aspirations of members.
