Considered a “miniature Vietnam”, with different climate and terrain sub-regions, suitable for the growth characteristics of many crops and livestock, Thanh Hoa province has a lot of room to develop a comprehensive, high-value-added agriculture. Every year, the total output of agricultural products is relatively large, therefore, developing a business system and distributing agricultural products in the province is one of the solutions to increase product value and develop the agricultural sector in a sustainable direction.
Typical agricultural products of the province participate in the Fair introducing safe agricultural products and food in Hau Loc district.
Diversify agricultural products
With the diversity of climate, terrain and production culture and activities of ethnic communities, Thanh Hoa province has about 200 agricultural products, including 12 key agricultural products in the fields of cultivation, livestock and aquaculture. With many products that have built a "reputation" in the market such as: Van Du oranges (Thach Thanh); Yen Ninh grapefruit, Le cabbage (Yen Dinh), Xuan Thanh oranges and grapefruits (Tho Xuan), Hau Loc shrimp paste... Besides, other essential agricultural products such as vegetables, tubers, fruits, fresh foods all have the potential to supply the market in large quantities and high quality.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 9 months of 2024, the whole province cultivated more than 80 thousand hectares of crops in the direction of production linkage, the total food output was stable at more than 1.56 million tons, vegetables and beans of all kinds were about 700 thousand tons, more than 251 thousand tons of fruits, 221 million poultry eggs, 233 thousand tons of fresh meat, 164 thousand tons of aquatic products... In districts, towns and cities, people also focus on developing models of organic and biosafety cultivation, livestock and aquaculture, contributing to diversifying and improving the quality of local agricultural products.
Through production, enterprises, cooperatives and people in the province have built about 1,165 safe food chains, 128 enterprises producing and trading agricultural, forestry and fishery products have been certified to meet food safety conditions according to regulations. Of which, 91 enterprises have been certified as food safety qualified establishments, 37 enterprises have been certified for advanced quality management systems; the rate of consumer food supplied through chains has reached more than 55%. The development of safe food supply chains has helped form many links between production, supply and consumption, and food sources have also been more closely monitored. Not only has this strengthened consumer confidence, it is also an important factor in improving production efficiency, forming concentrated commodity production areas, enhancing the value and competitiveness of products; creating positive changes in people's awareness and responsibility in producing and consuming safe products.
Although the province's agricultural output is large, there are still many limitations in the distribution and consumption stages, so the economic value of agricultural production has not reached expectations. Of which, about 85% of the province's agricultural output is used and distributed in the provincial market through the system of traditional trade channels and about 15% is supplied to the domestic market of provinces and cities, and exported. Therefore, to improve the efficiency of distribution and consumption, contributing to increasing the value of products, Thanh Hoa province has issued many mechanisms and policies to contribute to improving the capacity of agricultural production in a market-oriented manner, creating conditions for localities to build and expand the market for product consumption. Wholesale markets, supermarket systems, and trade centers have made an important contribution to the consumption and promotion of the value of agricultural products.
Strengthening supply and demand connection
Along with developing a system of markets and supermarkets selling agricultural products and safe food, all levels, sectors and production establishments in the province have promoted trade promotion activities and built chains of stores displaying, introducing and selling products inside and outside the province. As of October 2024, the whole province had 389 traditional markets, 2 commercial centers, and more than 60,000 commercial stores in operation; of which 537 stores sell safe food in densely populated areas. This is the traditional and main commercial system for consuming agricultural products and food.
Safe agricultural and food products of the province are consumed at the WinMart Supermarket system.
Along with the strong development of the market economy, especially the "digital economy", the departments, branches and localities of the province have promoted and mobilized economic sectors and people to actively consume products through digital platforms. Thereby, about 600 enterprises producing, processing and trading agricultural products, OCOP products have participated in promoting and selling on e-commerce platforms such as voso.vn, posmart.vn, lazada, shopee, tiki... with about 1,050 products of all kinds. Through that, it has contributed to promoting the consumption of agricultural products, safe food and helping enterprises and cooperatives in the province increase average sales from 15 to 20%/year. Some products through e-commerce activities to promote exports to foreign markets such as shrimp paste, Le Gia shrimp paste exported to the markets of Russia, Korea, Taiwan and South Africa; Pineapple, sweet corn, canned baby melon of Truong Tung and pineapple slices, canned baby melon of Tu Thanh Company Limited exported to EU, Russia, Korea, Australia; lychee products of Ho Guom - Song Am High-tech Agriculture Company Limited exported to UK, Japan...
Supply-demand connection and trade promotion activities organized annually by the agricultural sector and provincial departments and branches also play an important role in promoting safe food consumption. In the first 9 months of 2024 alone, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directed the Department of Quality, Processing and Market Development to successfully organize 4 fairs to introduce safe agricultural products and food in Trieu Son and Hau Loc districts. At the same time, the organization supported 80 enterprises, cooperatives and establishments to participate in fairs, agricultural weeks, and trade promotion activities inside and outside the province to promote and introduce safe agricultural products and food. The Department of Industry and Trade, the Office of the Provincial New Rural Development Program Coordination, the Provincial Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, the Thanh Hoa Cooperative Alliance, the Provincial Women's Union, etc. have had many activities to support entities, enterprises, members and members to participate in promoting product consumption. Through promotions, typical agricultural products and specialties with advantages of regions and localities in the province are introduced, promoted and find stable output, contributing to the development of sustainable agriculture , increasing value, creating positive changes in the transformation of production structure, and increasing income for people.
The development of the commercial, distribution and consumption system of agricultural products has been promoting the potential and advantages and affirming the key role of the agricultural sector in the socio-economic development of the province. In order for the agricultural and foodstuff business and distribution system to achieve the expected efficiency, it is necessary to plan a rural infrastructure system associated with a synchronous and modern commercial infrastructure system to attract economic sectors to participate in business and consume agricultural products; encourage individuals and organizations to establish a distribution and retail network of agricultural products to gradually replace the habit of distributing goods through intermediaries... At the same time, develop modern retail forms, encourage investment, build supermarkets, self-service stores and strongly develop the consumption of agricultural and food products through e-commerce.
