50 years of Da Nang liberation: March spirit forever echoes!

March 29, 2025, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang city March 29, 1975 - March 29, 2025. Exactly half a century ago, the victory on March 29 entered the history of Da Nang city as an immortal heroic epic. The liberation of Da Nang became a model of the art of development, taking advantage of opportunities to act very resolutely and flexibly.

From the end of 1974, the general revolutionary opportunity for the South began to appear. The Party Committee and people of Da Nang promoted the two-legged, three-pronged attack strategy, stepped up attacks on the enemy both militarily and politically; actively prepared in all aspects for the liberation of Da Nang.

This is a secret telegram sent by comrade Vo Chi Cong to the Politburo at 11pm on March 18, 1975: "There is a phenomenon of the enemy withdrawing from Hue, the general reserve force is also withdrawing, requesting the Politburo to send troops to attack and liberate Da Nang.

Immediately, the Politburo directed: "If you think it can be done, then liberate Da Nang."

Following the policy of the Standing Committee of the Quang Da Special Zone, the Da Nang Party Committee focused on leadership following the motto "Province liberates province, district liberates district, commune liberates commune"; secret committees entered the city to mobilize the masses and build forces.

On March 26, the Da Nang Liberation Campaign began. Our forces attacked the outlying districts and towns. The city's special forces and militia deployed a plan to capture positions according to the outlined plan.

By noon on March 29, our convoys were moving towards Da Nang one after another... At 11:30, the city commandos and the R20 Company of the 96th Regiment took over the City Hall. The flag of the liberation army was flying on the roof of the City Hall and many other locations.

Prime Minister Pham Van Dong, in his speech during a visit to mid- and high-ranking officials in Zone V and Da Nang city in July 1975, commented: "The victory in Da Nang was the opening feat leading to the great victory of the Ho Chi Minh campaign, liberating Saigon, liberating the South, bringing independence and freedom to our Fatherland Vietnam."

These assessments accurately reflect the nature of the leadership of the attack and uprising to liberate Da Nang in 1975.

50 years after liberation and nearly 30 years as a centrally-governed city - Da Nang has strived to overcome difficulties and challenges to innovate and creatively rise from the "cradle of the Central Revolution" to become a dynamic and key city of the Central region. After half a century of peace, the spirit of March will still resonate, adding vitality to Da Nang's new development./.
