The US Coast Guard (USCG) tweeted: “Specialists at the Joint Command are assessing the information.”

The USCG announced that the debris was found “in the ROV (remotely operated vehicle) search area near the Titanic wreck,” but did not provide further details.

The Titan submersible, owned by Ocean Gate, a private company that operates and provides ocean exploration services, lost all contact after nearly 2 hours carrying 5 divers to the ocean floor to visit the Titanic wreck on June 18.

According to Ocean Gate, the oxygen supply for the five people on the Titan submersible is running out, as the large-scale multinational search operation covering thousands of square kilometers in the remote North Atlantic Ocean has entered its fifth day. Ocean Gate stated that 96 hours have passed since Titan departed, and the oxygen on the ship could run out by the morning of June 22 (local time).

Experts say the issue depends on many factors such as whether the ship is still operational and how calm the people on board the submersible are. In addition, experts also believe that the ship is still intact.

Hopes were raised earlier when the US Department of Homeland Security announced that a Canadian P-8 aircraft involved in the search had heard repeated impacts every 30 minutes. The sonar system was deployed four hours later and the sounds were still being heard.

In 1912, the famous Titanic hit an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage from England to New York (USA) with 2,224 passengers and crew on board. More than 1,500 people died in the tragedy. The wreck lies at a depth of about 3,800m at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Since the Titanic was discovered in 1985, many tourists and professional divers have visited the wreck at high costs. To see the Titanic wreck with their own eyes, a tourist must pay 250,000 USD at Ocean Gate - according to the price announced last year./.
