Natural language networks will remove the complexity of network management while allowing for better response to end-user needs. Using AI technology, these networks will help service providers deploy and maintain the ideal network configuration for any customer, on demand.

In addition, the NLP continuously learns from its actions, optimizing the network further after each request. As its knowledge increases, the NLP can predict service and application needs and adapt to those needs without any human intervention.
“Operators will no longer need to dig through technical catalogs or complex API specifications while configuring their networks,” said Csaba Vulkan, head of network automation at Nokia Bell Labs. “Instead, a simple command like ‘Optimize network at location X for service Y’ will do the trick.” Such requests could be used to configure a wireless network in a factory for robotic automation or optimize the network at a concert when viewers are posting on multiple social networks.
The Natural Language Network is part of a new Nokia Bell Labs research initiative called UNEXT. Named after UNIX, the legendary operating system invented by Nokia Bell Labs, UNEXT will redefine software and networking in the same way that UNIX redefined computing. UNEXT will simplify the secure integration of any device into the network by turning the network into an operating system.
