Banking transactions must be biometrically authenticated for security.

Over the past week, the issue of biometric authentication for banking transactions has attracted public attention.

From July 1, individual customers who transact more than VND10 million or total daily transactions of more than VND20 million are required to confirm biometrics through face and fingerprint, with data synchronized between bank accounts and chip-embedded citizen identification cards. And during this time, many banking applications have continuously notified users to confirm biometrics.

While in the first two days of July 2024, many people encountered problems when applying biometric authentication to transfer money from banks, from July 3, biometric transactions have been smooth under the advice of bank staff. In addition to instructions via hotlines, many bank branches have established mobile teams to support customers.

According to statistics from the State Bank from July 1-4, after 3 days of implementing biometrics on bank accounts, 16.6 million accounts were checked and compared with data from the Ministry of Public Security. This number is equal to a whole year of the banking industry opening accounts for customers.

Biometric authentication is an additional layer of protection, the bank does not skip any security steps, so it is only safer for customers. Currently, the situation of high-tech crime is increasingly sophisticated and information security technology, banking transactions must constantly improve to better protect customers' assets.
