An overnight tour right in the city for parents and children to explore and paint the old town at night and early morning with many interesting things has made both adults and children eagerly look forward to Children's Day this year.

The idea of organizing a unique Children's Day this year received support from the Hanoi Old Quarter Management Board.

Therefore, the space of the Hanoi Old Quarter Information Center at 50 Dao Duy Tu (Hoan Kiem District) is reserved for the group's exhibition and drawing workshop activities for three days from May 31 to June 2.

When parents are also the main characters in Children's Day

50 paintings of Hanoi's relics such as ancient houses, apartment buildings, Hang Dau booth, the Great Church, Ham Long Church, Old Quarter cafes... by children in the Hanoi Urban Sketching Group were selected to be displayed in the exhibition Children Draw Hanoi at the Hanoi Old Quarter Information Center.

This is an annual exhibition that the group has organized for the past eight years for the children.

What is special is that the exhibitions are all organized by parents for their children. The group is full of people who love art, from adults to children. So every year the exhibition is accompanied by a fun "homegrown" art program.

At those cultural nights, parents sing with their children, or grandchildren play musical instruments, or mothers choreograph dances, create plays for their children to perform, or some mothers design and sew their own performance uniforms for their children...

Those parents not only organize Children's Day parties for their children, but they also participate in them like their children, they are also the "main characters".

Be a tourist with your child in the city you live in

This year is even more special because their Children's Day does not stop after the exhibition opening night and then everyone goes home.

Even though they were in the city, they rented a communal room at a hotel right in the old quarter so that parents and children could explore and paint the old quarter at night, which was very different from the bustling scene during the day.

Then the next morning, parents and their children explore an ancient Hanoi filled with many interesting things in the early morning that even Hanoians like them who live far from the old quarter have not had the opportunity to know.

Early in the morning, Hoan Kiem Lake suddenly turns into a giant stadium and dance floor, with groups of young people and the elderly running, jumping, walking, practicing yoga, meditating, and laughing yoga… making both children and parents excited to join in.

And a food tour of the old town is a must, famous as a paradise for delicious and sophisticated breakfast food of Hanoians.

Taking the kids to explore Hoan Kiem Lake early in the morning is very different and something that Hanoians rarely get to see.

In just a short time in the early morning, they were able to discover Hang Gai traditional bread; special chicken pho, Luong Van Can street dumplings; rib porridge, pancakes, and Hang Bo wontons; Thanh Tri rice rolls - a refreshing breakfast dish that many Hanoians love, at the intersection of Hang Gai - To Tich; and green sticky rice from street vendors...

When they were tired, they returned to the Old Quarter Information Center, where parents played traditional games with their children such as volleyball, jumping rope, and hopscotch.

Fathers who are good at drawing and have a talent for painting "stand in class" to teach sketching skills to children.

Of course, this is not just a normal trip that parents organize for their children on the occasion of their children's Tet holiday.

That is how these "awake" and "addicted" parents of Children's Day pull their children away from all kinds of screens, to discover countless interesting things in the city where they live, from architecture, heritage, culture, customs, lifestyle...

Remarkably, these parents do not celebrate Children's Day just once a year.

For the past eight years, every Sunday afternoon, regardless of rain, shine, or cold, they have gone out with their children to draw beautiful pieces of Hanoi and sometimes other places in their homeland Vietnam.

So Children's Day for these parents is always a very special occasion, not just the children's New Year.
