3,000 acacia trees are growing, contributing to creating a cool green space.

Returning to Ha Kenh village, it was surprising that the road along the dike was not as “bare” as before, because the rows of acacia trees over two meters tall were growing up. The green color of the leaves made the hot sun seem to cool down. A few groups of farmers who had just visited the fields, fertilized the rice, sat and rested under the shade of the acacia trees, happily exchanging experiences in taking care of the fields.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of the Club: When looking for a model for economic development and fundraising, the Club's Board of Directors immediately thought of planting acacia along the dike of Ha Kenh village. In addition to the economic value, the more important thing is to contribute to creating a cool green space and protecting the environment in the area. With the agreement of the Commune People's Committee, Club members contributed funds to buy more than 3,000 acacia seedlings and learn the techniques before planting along the dike. "We planted in June last year, about 5 years after the harvest, the Club continued to plant another batch of acacia so that the green color would continue" - Mr. Toan excitedly said.

Leading guests to visit the lush green rice fields, along the shady green dike, the Vice Chairman of the "Good Farmers and Businessmen" Club of Phu Gia commune proudly said: This is 5 hectares of rice fields produced according to the commune's organic process, a model implemented by the club. Nowadays, many young people leave their fields and go everywhere to find other jobs that are less strenuous and have higher incomes. However, farmers who consider their fields as their life are still loyal and find ways to develop. "The fields contain the sweat, tears, efforts, sadness, and joy of farmers for generations, creating rice grains for life. Now our goal is not only to have a high yield of rice, but also to ensure quality and health for consumers" - Mr. Toan confided.

With that enthusiasm, the "Good Farmers and Businessmen" Club of Phu Gia commune has pioneered in implementing the organic rice production model to expand in the commune. According to Mr. Nguyen Luy and Mr. Ho Loi - "veteran" farmers with 40-50 years of experience in the fields, members of the Club, the organic rice production model, although the productivity and output are not equal to the conventional production process, consumers can use clean rice grains. Contributing to bringing clean products to the market, ensuring the health of consumers, that is the meaningful and positive effect for the community that the Club aims for, maintains and develops.

With the goal of implementing economic development models associated with environmental protection, the Club has coordinated with the Phu Gia Commune Agricultural Cooperative and the District Department of Agriculture and Environment to implement a model of collecting pesticide containers at pesticide pits in the commune, raising funds for the Club. “Pesticide containers and bottles, after use by farmers, are often put into pits in the fields. Once a year, after the summer-autumn crop, before the rainy season, we collect them and contact the Hue Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company so that they can use specialized vehicles to transport them for disposal,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Toan.

Although only 3 years old, the “Good Farmers and Businessmen” Club of Phu Gia commune has implemented many effective and meaningful models that can be replicated in the future. The funds collected from these models are lent to poor farming households to create “momentum” for economic development, encouraging farmers in particular and people in the commune in general to strive for a better life and join hands to build their homeland.
