China's Wong Fei Hung is a character that has been widely portrayed in films, however, some aspects of his real life remain controversial.
Wong Fei-hung was a famous Chinese martial artist during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. He was also a physician with the Po-Chi-Lin Pharmacy. Wong Fei-hung is believed to have been born in 1847 or 1856 in Foshan, Guangdong, and died in 1924 or 1925.
He was taught Hung Ga by his father and also practiced many other martial arts. He promoted the idea of practicing martial arts with virtue, not bullying the weak, using virtue to serve others, and eliminating male chauvinism.
Many details surrounding Wong Fei Hung's life, such as the origin of the photo believed to be his portrait or the martial arts he mastered, remain the subject of debate among experts and his successors.
