In the first two months of 2025, the demand for IT personnel recruitment in Vietnam decreased slightly by 2% compared to the same period last year, while the number of job seekers in the industry increased by 18%, according to a newly released report by Vieclam24.
Businesses are still "thirsty" for high-quality IT human resources
Published by online job platform Vieclam24 on March 18, the report "Summary of Vietnam's labor market in early 2025" was built from a survey of more than 400 businesses and 1,000 workers in early March.
According to the report, in the first two months of 2025, the Vietnamese labor market recorded positive signs of recovery compared to the same period in 2024.
Survey results show that, overall, recruitment demand increased by 19% compared to last year, reflecting the trend of expanding human resources of businesses.
However, this increase has not been matched by labor supply, as job demand has not been met evenly across industries.
Notably, in the IT industry, according to a new survey published by Vieclam24, the demand for recruiting personnel in this industry in the first two months of this year decreased by 2% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the number of workers looking for jobs in the IT industry increased by 18% due to recent personnel fluctuations.
"However, salaries for software personnel positions are still among the highest in the market and businesses are still "thirsty" for high-quality IT human resources," said Vieclam24 experts.
New research by Vieclam24 also shows that Vietnamese businesses are facing many challenges in recruitment, with the main causes being: Competition between businesses, labor market shifts and imbalance in supply and demand of labor market.
Specifically, the current labor market records a large gap between industries. Some industries have a serious shortage of human resources, while many industries have a surplus of labor, increasing competition and making it difficult for businesses to recruit.
For example, in the fields of data analysis, technology, logistics, and business, despite the high recruitment demand, businesses still have difficulty finding suitable candidates.
On the other hand, rapidly developing technology creates demand for new skills, while many candidates are not ready to upgrade or do not have access to appropriate training, further prolonging the gap between labor supply and demand.
In addition, Vieclam24's survey also shows that technology is strongly influencing and completely changing the method of recruiting human resources in Vietnam.
Online platforms are constantly being upgraded with AI technology to help reach candidates faster and more accurately. At the same time, workers are increasingly taking advantage of technology to find jobs.
Workers and candidates need to improve AI skills
In the long term, according to the 2025 salary and labor market report released in mid-February, Navigos Group said that more than 81.2% of surveyed businesses plan to increase IT recruitment this year and in the coming time.
In particular, businesses continue to prioritize recruiting personnel with 1 to 3 years of experience (55.47%) and 3 to 5 years of experience (27.36%).
The trend of applying technology, especially AI in recruitment and job search, is also emphasized by Navigos Group in the report.
Accordingly, AI is gradually being used by candidates to optimize CVs, search for jobs, look up company information, practice interviews and develop skills.
However, only 18.45% of surveyed candidates said they were using AI in their job search, while 81.55% had yet to access this technology.
Regarding IT personnel, experts all believe that the demand for recruiting high-quality personnel will continue to increase in the coming time. Talking to VietNamNet reporters, the Director of Aptech International Programmer Training System said: "According to the predictions of many organizations, in the next few years, the salary of IT personnel in Vietnam will always maintain the Top position in the labor market" .
Faced with market fluctuations, experts recommend that workers in the coming time need to focus on improving their skills in AI, data analysis, and digital technology; and pay attention to foreign languages, especially English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese, to expand opportunities and work effectively at multinational companies.
Workers and candidates also need to update their knowledge of AI and automation tools to maintain their current positions and access new career opportunities; adapt to flexible working models, practice time management and effective communication skills.
At the same time, build your personal brand on online platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook to stand out to employers and easily access new opportunities.
