The Ho Chi Minh City National University’s competency assessment exam has been restructured to match the 2018 general education program. The new point of the exam is the appearance of a group of fields related to economic and legal education. On the other hand, candidates can choose their subjects instead of having to answer all the questions in part 3 like the old exam. Currently, about 90 universities and colleges use the results of this exam for admission.

6 major universities in Ho Chi Minh City including Banking, Saigon, Finance - Marketing, Open, Law and Van Lang and 4 other universities/schools including Thai Nguyen University, Banking Academy, Can Tho University, Tra Vinh University will use the results of the computer-based entrance exam (V-SAT) for admission.

The exam has 8 independent subjects, including: Math, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Literature. The exam content is within the high school curriculum, mainly the 12th grade curriculum (about 90% of knowledge is from the 12th grade curriculum and 10% is from the 10th and 11th grade curriculum). In addition, schools will also use other admission methods.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Education organizes a specialized competency assessment exam but there will be many improvements in the structure of the exams. The specialized competency assessment exam will continue to be conducted with exams in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature and English. The school also expands the scale of the exam to serve other universities recruiting students such as Hanoi University of Education, Danang University of Education; Industry and Trade, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Van Lang University, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Tay Nguyen University of Medicine and Pharmacy, etc.

Nha Trang University recruits students based on the combination of high school academic results and university academic ability assessment results. With the academic results, for each major and training major of the school, candidates must study a certain number of subjects in high school according to regulations. The results of these subjects must meet the minimum requirements announced by the school every year. With the results of university academic ability assessment, for each major and training major of the school, candidates must also participate in the university academic ability assessment.

Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine increased the enrollment quota for some majors such as Traditional Medicine, up 20%; Nursing, up 10%; Pharmacy, up 30% compared to the enrollment quota in 2024. The school also said that it will not apply foreign language in the secondary criteria when considering equal scores like in 2024 and earlier.

Vietnam-Germany University still maintains the TestAS exam. Accordingly, TestAS is an exam that assesses thinking ability, not simply fixed knowledge.
