Inspirational, loving person in the wilderness

(NLDO) - I am proud to be her student, grateful for her guidance so that each passing day is the time I get closer to my dreams and aspirations.

In the midst of the vast green forest, all kinds of flowers compete to show their bright colors: wild sunflowers, coffee, mango, orange, guava... It is impossible not to mention a wild flower, although it does not have bright colors, nor is it graceful and charming, but the fragrance of the flower has a strange ability to spread and attract. Those are precious wild flowers. One of the fragrant wild flowers that I love is an Ede teacher - the one who passed on to me the love of literature and the inspiration to write.

The one who sows passion

She had never held a chalk on the podium, never taught me how to read. Because she was not a teacher but only a guide. Her name was Nie Thanh Mai – President of the Dak Lak Province Literature and Arts Association.

Ms. Nie Thanh Mai is an example for many young people who are passionate about writing.

Before meeting her, I had seen her image through the pages of her writings, which were very interesting collections of short stories. With a youthful, humorous, and playful writing style, I imagined the author as a young, slim, and beautiful girl.

And I once wished to meet her in real life. Luckily, last summer, my name was called in the list of 30 members participating in the Green Summer Composition Camp of the province and I got to meet her.

The first impression that left in my mind was her appearance and her special way of dressing. At the age of over forty, she possessed the figure of a noble woman, a firm body, dark skin and a round face as elegant as the full moon.

If anyone meets her for the first time, they will not think that she is the president of the provincial Literature and Arts Association because of her surprisingly simple way of dressing. Instead of colorful dresses or flowing ao dai, Ms. Nie Thanh Mai often goes bare-faced, sometimes with light makeup and dark-toned outfits. It could be an indigo ao dai, a brown dress or a black skirt with a shirt...

But it seems that her favorite clothes are loose-fitting ones. That way of dressing somehow shows her liberal, strong personality and artistic qualities of the Central Highlands people.

One would think that a person with such a strong personality would speak eloquently and strongly, but when she spoke, everyone was surprised by her soft and indescribable voice. Her soft voice, slightly hoarse, mixed with a very attractive Southern accent. Her unique voice really made the person she spoke to miss her.

During the opening ceremony, instead of carrying papers like many others, she stepped up to the podium and began speaking with empty hands. Her words were more fluent, coherent, profound and concise than those of a real MC, truly worthy of being a writer. With that sweet way of speaking, she conveyed to us – the young members attending.

The Summer Green Writing Camp had many useful messages. During the camp, we sometimes offended her and were scolded by her, but we have to admit that listening to her scolding was fun and interesting. The scolding was just soothing enough to the ears and helped the listeners understand the content and her use of words and soaring expressions.

The simple mirror

Being active and decisive is her most outstanding feature that everyone can see. In her role as the president of the provincial Literature and Arts Association, she always completes her tasks excellently, being an exemplary leader. The huge workload with the special nature of traveling here and there requires her to be skillful in arranging and also have a spirit of sacrifice.

Every year when summer comes, she is busy with planning, asking for funding and running the Writing Camp for young members with the aim of nurturing literary talent. Although she is the leader, she participates in all camp activities as a goodwill member. Her way of working is as friendly as her personality. She does not point fingers but holds hands and shows them how to do things. Whenever, wherever, whenever a member encounters difficulties, she appears promptly to help or intervene. For each young member's writing (including me), she spends a lot of time reading and using beautiful words and ideas to comment and give suggestions.

Her insightful assessments not only helped us to recognize the shortcomings in our writing, but also inspired us to achieve more. Thanks to that, our writing skills have been constantly improved every day. With her dedicated and enthusiastic guidance and work, the quality of the Writing Camp has been increasingly appreciated. Thanks to that, over the years, many talented young writers have grown up from the Writing Camp home of our province.

She has a thousand things to do but she still works hard to write. She said that writing is in her blood, writing is a way to relieve stress every day. It must be admitted that there are few presidents of the Association who have such abundant creativity as her. Whenever she has free time, she writes. Regardless of time or circumstances, whether she is sitting on the bus with the group or sitting alone by the stream, she writes.

Her short stories are very diverse in topics. Most of them are imbued with the vibrant colors of the Central Highlands people in the vast green mountains and forests. Each story is an interesting story about things, phenomena, people and conveys many profound lessons to the readers.

So, Nie Thanh Mai - a fragrant wild flower is quietly spreading its fragrance every day, spreading a positive message about a simple lifestyle, a passionate work spirit, love for the job, love for people, and love for life.

During the time participating in the Green Writing Camp 2023, although I did not have much contact with her, her personality and way of working left me with many beautiful impressions. I will always cherish and keep her precious luggage and boundless love in my heart.
