Van Don is a locality with a large aquaculture area in Quang Ninh province. People live off the sea, cling to the sea, and get rich from the sea. However, after storm No. 3 (Yagi), the entire area of mollusk farming and fish cages at sea were destroyed by the storm. Many families who had made a living from the sea all their lives suddenly became penniless just a few hours after storm No. 3 raged.

According to preliminary statistics, most of the aquaculture areas of Van Don people were "wiped out" by storm No. 3, with a total of 1,338 facilities damaged.

The oyster farms of the people who had just converted to HDPE standard materials were all rolled into pieces by the waves and wind, drifting on the sea to the rocky cliffs. The fish cages were devastated by the waves, torn apart, and almost lost because the fish swam out to sea. The floating houses that looked after the aquaculture areas were almost completely destroyed by the storm, with many of the equipment invested inside to serve daily life. Many ships and boats used as means of transportation at sea to look after and raise aquatic products were sunk by the waves.

Total initial estimated damage in aquaculture in Van Don district is up to thousands of billions of VND.
