Ha Giang Besides "Twin Mountains" or "Heaven's Gate", Quan Ba district also has a majestic, wild and rare waterfall located in Khau Lan valley.

Khau Lan Waterfall is located in a valley in Quyet Tien commune, Quan Ba district, surrounded by cool green tropical forests, not much affected by humans and still retains its wild, majestic beauty.

From the center of Ha Giang city, visitors can travel more than 40 km to reach the center of Quyet Tien commune, Quan Ba district. From here, continue traveling 10 km to reach the trekking point down to the waterfall. Because the waterfall has not been located on the navigation application, if traveling on your own, visitors should regularly ask local people to avoid getting lost.

Khau Lan Waterfall can be explored in a day because the trekking distance to the waterfall is only about one kilometer, not too strenuous. The afternoon from the entrance to the waterfall is downhill. Therefore, the afternoon return will be more difficult. However, the road is in the forest, with many trees, so the air is quite cool and fresh, you can trek and enjoy the scenery at the same time.

From the main road, you can hear the sound of rushing water. After about 10-15 minutes of walking, the waterfall appears in front of you. On both sides of the waterfall are climbing plants and ancient trees "standing tall like a wall, making the space seem narrowed in the middle of the vast mountains and forests", according to travel blogger Ta Ba Lo, a Bo Y ethnic person born and raised in Ha Giang and trekking to the waterfall in August. In the middle is a waterfall with a large flow of water, pouring into the lake below, creating white foam.

Because it is a wild waterfall, few people know about it, so there are no exact figures about the height, length and width of the waterfall. Ta Ba Lo estimates the waterfall to be about 20 m high and more than 10 m wide. The length cannot be estimated because after falling into the lake, the waterfall continues to flow down.

What makes the waterfall majestic is the strong flow, winding through large rocks on both sides of the edge and pouring into the lake. Across the lake are large tree trunks, creating a wild and unique beauty. "You have to look directly and hear the sound of the water falling down to fully feel the majesty of the waterfall," said Ta Ba Lo.

The waterfall is located at the source of the stream flowing from the mountain cave, so the water is clear, cool and clean. The lake is suitable for waterfall bathing. Next to the waterfall, there are small sandy beaches for visitors to set up tables and chairs, grills, organize small parties and rest, enjoy the cool air. However, the open spaces are not wide and located near the stream, visitors should not camp overnight because there may be heavy rain, high water, and rapid flow.

The tree trunks across the lake create a unique landscape.

The weather in Ha Giang at the beginning and end of the year is quite cold, so to be able to bathe in the waterfall, visitors should come here in the summer and early autumn, from June to early October. Khau Lan waterfall is not known to many people, so to be safe and avoid getting lost, visitors should go with a local porter. When coming here, in addition to tools for bathing in the waterfall and organizing a barbecue, visitors should bring insect repellent spray and sunscreen. Avoid going on rainy days because the humid jungle is prone to the appearance of poisonous insects and reptiles.

Ta Ba Lo believes that Khau Lan is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Ha Giang. He hopes that tour operators or independent visitors will be aware of preserving the landscape and not littering so that the waterfall can maintain its original beauty.

Ta Ba Lo suggests that after exploring the waterfall, visitors can visit and learn about the indigenous culture of the Bo Y ethnic community living in a small village not far from the waterfall, creating an opportunity for tourism to develop here.
