Hundreds of people compete to wrap Chung cakes to commemorate King Hung in Ho Chi Minh City

(Dan Tri) - On the afternoon of April 3, on the occasion of the Hung King's death anniversary, the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City's National Historical and Cultural Park organized the 7th "wrapping and cooking banh chung" contest, attracting hundreds of people to compete.

At the Hoi An Stadium - Hung Kings Memorial Temple (HCMC), more than 40 teams and units from districts in HCMC participated in the Chung cake wrapping contest. Each team will wrap and cook 19 Chung cakes within the prescribed time.

Before the competition began, the delegates and participating teams offered incense to commemorate the Hung Kings. The competition not only had a sacred meaning, oriented towards the origin, but was also an opportunity for units to exchange and share experiences in wrapping and cooking banh chung, building a spirit of solidarity.

The teams prepared ingredients such as sticky rice, mung bean paste, pork, dong leaves and bamboo strings. All ingredients were carefully checked before use.

Artisan Nguyen Thi Thuy from Binh Tan District shared: "This is the 7th year I have participated in the contest. My whole neighborhood is very excited to participate in this event with a profound and sacred message."

Soldiers from Regiment 2, Division 9, Corps 34 showed off their banh chung wrapping skills. Banh chung was judged based on size, shape, color and flavor.

According to the organizers, the teams have carefully prepared to create the most beautiful products to offer to the Hung Kings, ensuring both form and quality.

Soldiers from the 263rd Air Defense Missile Regiment are equally skillful, carefully preparing the banh chung filling, creating square cakes with rich traditional flavors.

In the bustling atmosphere, many teams chose traditional costumes, meticulously wrapping each cake, showing their ingenuity and pride in national culture.

After wrapping, the teams arranged and decorated the banh chung to score and presented the meaning of their work.

Second Lieutenant Pham Cong Minh from Regiment 31, Division 309, Military Region 7 said: "We participate with the purpose of learning and returning to our roots, while trying to maintain the best achievements."

"This is the first year I have participated in this meaningful activity. I have learned a lot about the tradition of remembering the source of water we drink," said soldier Nguyen Cong Tinh.

By the morning of April 4, the teams had completed their displays and presentations to the judges. After the competition, the winning works will be offered to the Hung Kings on the 10th day of the third lunar month.

This is not only a contest, but also a meaningful activity towards the Hung Kings' death anniversary, praising the Hung Kings' merits and promoting the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking".
