Research on applying manhole system to collect water, prevent odor and prevent mosquitoes

DNO - On August 23, the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Da Nang City in collaboration with the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province and SIGEN Company Limited organized a workshop on the application of a manhole system to collect water (collect rainwater on the road surface) and has the function of preventing odors and preventing mosquitoes, in order to popularize this newly recognized initiative and invention and to get opinions from experts, scientists and managers on the possibility of applying this invention in Da Nang City in particular and the whole country in general.

Accordingly, this system has a trash screen above and a water filter below. Below the trash screen is a large pipe to lead rainwater into the manhole and there is a door to cover the pipe mouth on the manhole wall, to prevent bad odors and prevent insects (cockroaches, mosquitoes...), animals (rats, snakes...) from the sewer from entering the road surface.

At the same time, this cover also automatically "takes advantage" of water pressure when the sewer is full to close tightly, preventing water from flowing back from the sewer onto the road surface, contributing to reducing flooding.

Below the water filter (small mesh) there is also a small pipe to absorb and drain water from the rainwater collection pit to the manhole, preventing rainwater from stagnating in this collection pit, so mosquitoes cannot lay eggs and reproduce, as well as drying out all kinds of garbage and sand deposits for easy dredging and collection...

In addition, thanks to this water filter and small tube, it also reduces the dirtiness of the first rainwater on the road surface, supporting the collection, treatment as well as reducing pollution for rivers, seas...

SIGEN Company Limited's manhole system for collecting water, preventing odors, and preventing mosquitoes has been granted an exclusive industrial design patent, an exclusive invention patent, etc. by the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) and has currently installed nearly 6,000 systems in a number of localities such as: Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Kien Giang, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Yen, Vinh Phuc, Lao Cai, Son La, Phu Tho.

At the workshop, SIGEN Company Limited donated 10 manhole systems to collect water, prevent odors, and prevent mosquitoes to be installed in some areas in the city that are often flooded, with water flowing back from the sewers causing flooding and people being upset by the bad smell, insects, and harmful animals coming from the sewers.

Experts, scientists, and managers have highly appreciated the structure and functions of this system and discussed and clarified technical aspects, applicability, investment and construction standards...

Director of Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company Ha Van Thanh said that in Da Nang, there is a situation where people fill, cover, and block rainwater intakes on the road surface because of bad odors, insects, and harmful animals from the sewers. The manhole system to collect water, prevent odors, and prevent mosquitoes of SIGEN Company Limited is considered to overcome the above basic disadvantages in Da Nang city, from which people will not fill or block rainwater intakes, ensuring flood prevention.

However, with the characteristics of heavy rain in the Central region and the appearance of extreme rain in Da Nang city as in the past, it is necessary to promptly deploy the installation of 10 manhole systems to collect water and prevent odors and prevent mosquitoes mentioned above in areas where people are upset about flooding, odors and insects and animals entering from sewers to specifically evaluate the effectiveness as well as make adjustments and supplements to suit the actual conditions in the city.
