Tho Xuan district has 5 traditional craft villages recognized by the province, including: Gai cake village (Tho Dien commune), leaf cake village (Xuan Lap commune), 2 conical hat villages (Tho Loc commune) and rice vermicelli village (Phu Xuan commune). These craft villages are currently creating jobs and increasing income for many local people.

Traditional occupations contribute to increasing people's income. The vermicelli making profession of Mr. Trinh Dinh Huy's family in Tho Phu village, Phu Xuan commune creates jobs for many workers in the village.

These days, coming to Xuan Lap commune - a locality famous for making delicious banh la rang bua, we witnessed "everyone making cakes, every household making cakes". Chairman of Xuan Lap Commune People's Committee Le Dinh Hai said: The profession of making banh la rang bua in Xuan Lap has been around for hundreds of years. Previously, the cakes were mainly made for families, and were made by people in the commune on holidays and Tet. Today, the profession has the conditions to develop in a commercial direction when it was recognized as a traditional craft village, and the banh la achieved a 3-star OCOP product in October 2020. Recently, the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) issued a barcode for Xuan Lap banh la rang bua. These factors are creating conditions for Xuan Lap banh la to develop and expand further. Currently, Xuan Lap banh la is present in many provinces and cities across the country and there are about more than 200 households participating in the profession. These households all have stable incomes, many households have a comfortable life. In addition, the rice cake making profession also creates regular jobs for 270 workers and many seasonal workers, with income ranging from 2 - 7 million VND/person/month.

As one of the households involved in making banh la rang bua in the commune, Ms. Mai Thi Tu, owner of the Tu Chu banh la rang bua establishment, said: Banh la has become a profession that has helped my family's life become more prosperous. In particular, since the commune's banh la rang bua was recognized as an OCOP product, the amount of banh la rang bua consumed by my family has increased, ranging from 2,000 - 2,500 pieces/day, double the previous number, creating regular jobs for 6 workers, with an income of 200,000 - 250,000 VND/person/day.

Since being recognized as a traditional craft village, especially when Phu Xuan commune's rice vermicelli achieved a 3-star OCOP product at the provincial level, rice vermicelli production here has become more vibrant than ever, especially near Tet like now. Chairman of Phu Xuan Commune People's Committee Vu Dinh Nam said: Currently, there are nearly 60 households participating in the vermicelli making industry in the commune, concentrated in Phu Cuong and Tho Phu villages. At this time, vermicelli-making households are increasing their capacity to serve the Tet market, ensuring that each household supplies the market with 2-4 quintals of vermicelli per day, an increase of 5-10% compared to normal days. According to Mr. Nam, the development of the vermicelli industry has created jobs and increased income for hundreds of local workers, with an income of 3-5 million VND/person/month.

The rice vermicelli production facility of Mr. Trinh Dinh Huy's family in Tho Phu village currently creates regular jobs for 5 workers, with an income ranging from 200,000 - 250,000 VND/person/day. Mr. Huy said: My family has been making vermicelli for many generations, I myself have been in the profession for more than 30 years. Previously, the production and consumption of vermicelli only reached about 1 quintal/day. Since being recognized as a traditional craft village and the family's vermicelli products were recognized as OCOP products in 2022, production and consumption have been greatly improved. Currently, the facility produces 3 - 4 tons of vermicelli/day. In addition to creating regular jobs for 5 workers, during peak times like now, they also hire 4 seasonal workers, with a daily wage of 30,000 VND/hour. According to Mr. Huy, since developing the vermicelli profession, it has brought his family an income of about 200 million VND/year.

Talking about the effectiveness of traditional craft villages in the area, Deputy Head of the Economic - Infrastructure Department of Tho Xuan district, Le Dinh Hao, said: After being recognized, the craft villages have all promoted their effectiveness, creating jobs and increasing income for hundreds of local workers, with income ranging from 3 - 7 million VND/person/month...
