The Dao Tan Cultural Award was established in 1995, initially giving priority to those with achievements in preserving and promoting national cultural heritage in this famous person's hometown of Binh Dinh, then expanding to the whole country.
Reporter: How did Binh Tinh feel when she received the good news of being nominated for an award while touring in Canada? 
- Artist BINH TINH: I was really moved when I heard this news and immediately thought of my parents (the late artists Duc Loi and Bach Mai - PV). When I devoted myself to the art of classical opera for many years, I heard previous generations mention the Dao Tan Cultural Award many times. The artisans, artists, and researchers who received this award are truly examples for the next generation to follow. The award has recently been expanded, anyone who is a Vietnamese person who has contributed to the preservation and promotion of national culture can be nominated and considered for the award. Is this award a motivation for Binh Tinh to carry out many projects to serve the public? - As the Dao Tan Cultural Award Council's policy, each award given will encourage artists to continue researching and creating. I am in the performing artist group and also the Head of the Huynh Long Classical Opera Art Troupe - a socialized theater unit of Ho Chi Minh City, so I feel a lot of things. I hope to be "fueled" with dedication from this award. I will continue to lead the Huynh Long Group to maintain the purpose and principles of traditional theater. In early June, the group will tour France. The late playwright Bach Mai composed many scripts based on Vietnamese history such as: "Trung Queen", "Matt Sun Dem The Ky", "Anh Hung Ban Than", "Xuan Ve Tren Dinh Ma Phi"... I will stage these scripts in a new form, in addition to re-enacting the beloved plays of the Huynh Long Group, to respond to the public's affection in recent times. In the process of deep international integration, there will be both positive and negative impacts on the preservation and promotion of the value of cultural heritage and the cultural and artistic life of the country. What is Binh Tinh worried about? - The more difficult it is, the more determined we must be. I believe that the team of artisans and artists in Ho Chi Minh City as well as the whole country will continue to research, apply, inherit, and promote artistic values. Creating a brand is difficult, maintaining it is even more difficult. Huynh Long Group and I personally have always practiced our profession, aiming to preserve and pass on to juniors the roles and plays of a lifetime. What does Binh Tinh expect from the School Stage program in Ho Chi Minh City? - We have organized many performances, introducing the art of classical opera to students. We have also created many forms of performance, combining accompanying dances and sound and lighting effects; ensuring that the characteristics of classical opera are preserved while still bringing vitality and a modern breath. I hope this activity will contribute to spreading the love of classical opera to young people. In early 2024, the Ho Chi Minh City Stage Festival will be held. What role will Binh Tinh participate in? - We have prepared a repertoire to participate in the festival. The plays staged on Huynh Long Stage are all innovative in both content and form. This festival is aimed at young people, so Huynh Long Group has selected talented young artists to perform. Young artists serving young audiences will bring about deeper interaction and empathy, especially in the art of traditional opera.
