'Listen' to Ao Dai tell stories about Vietnamese culture

(PLVN) - The 2024 Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival aims to develop and promote Hanoi tourism in conjunction with promoting Vietnam tourism. In addition, the Festival honors and preserves the unique cultural beauty of the traditional Ao Dai of the Vietnamese people.

Reenacting the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital

The 2024 Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival will be held in October, as a practical activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024). The festival is organized by the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the Hanoi Women's Union, the Hanoi Youth Union and related units from October 4 to 6, 2024, at the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center (Hanoi).

The Festival event has "Ao Dai Carnival" parading along the route from Doan Mon Square, Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center - Hanoi - Hoang Dieu - Hoang Van Thu - Doc Lap - Thang Long Imperial Citadel. The highlight is the art program "Ao Dai Quintessence" built in 3 chapters with the color of honoring Vietnamese Ao Dai including Golden History, Interchange Bridge and Spreading Journey. In the performance space, there are many scenes, dances, especially recreating the historical journey of 70 years of Liberation of the Capital with the image of Vietnamese Ao Dai and the source of contemporary life. The festival combines music including songs introducing Vietnam tourism, especially Hanoi tourism, with light art and Ao Dai performances from traditional to modern by designers following the journey of discovery and experience of domestic and international tourists.

Ao dai photo exhibition space with content of ao dai past and present in Vietnamese culture, ao dai with international friends and tourists, ao dai in tourism activities... Besides that is a cultural and artistic space, artisans will perform traditional folk art combined with ao dai performance.

The event has the participation of designers, Ao Dai brands, traditional craft villages, tourism businesses of Hanoi and other localities with about 80 - 100 booths introducing products of designers, Ao Dai brands from the 3 regions of North - Central - South. At the Festival, people and tourists can learn more about the tradition and history of Ao Dai through the timeline of Hanoi, Hue, and Ho Chi Minh City. Community activities to experience, take photos with Ao Dai with beautiful miniatures, demonstrations of creating works by artisans; space to enjoy Hanoi cuisine "Thang Long Ngu Vi"...

The festival not only honors Vietnamese Ao Dai but also aims to provide information and promote tour products, tourism routes, and services of airlines, travel agencies, hotels, and destinations... It is known that previously, in 2023, the Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival attracted about 60,000 visitors, the event is an attractive tourism product of the capital in the fall.

Fostering love for the ao dai

The traditional Ao Dai has long been a symbol of Vietnamese culture. Over time, the Ao Dai has undergone many changes to suit modern life but still retains its traditional, sophisticated beauty.

Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang informed that the Ao Dai Festival is one of the beautiful and creative ideas of the capital's tourism industry, not only attracting tourists, but also contributing to preserving, honoring and spreading the beauty of the traditional Ao Dai, promoting the national identity of Vietnam, because the Festival honors and preserves the unique cultural beauty of the traditional Ao Dai of the Vietnamese people. Ao Dai is considered a cultural symbol associated with the image of Vietnamese women; it is an impressive souvenir product for international tourists when coming to Vietnam.

In addition, the Festival contributes to creating creative inspiration for many generations of designers in the field of Ao Dai fashion. At the same time, it arouses the love for the national Ao Dai in the community, creating a ripple effect on the whole society, gradually bringing Ao Dai to a new level, becoming a typical tourism product of Vietnam - an "ambassador of culture and tourism" that cannot be ignored in the global space of heritage values, culture and world tourism.

More than anyone else, young people are the ones who continue to preserve and promote the beauty of the national ao dai. Thu Trang, 21 years old, a student at the University of Culture, excitedly said: “I look forward to the festival. Because this festival honors the beauty of the traditional ao dai, the beauty and convenience of the ao dai, aiming to make the ao dai a familiar outfit for all classes and all industries, chosen for regular use in daily work and on important holidays and events of the year. Thereby, contributing to preserving and conserving the cultural identity of the nation, promoting the image of the country and the Vietnamese people in general.
