Mr. Duong Quoc Thanh's 1-hectare orange garden in village 1, Quang Tho commune, Vu Quang district (Ha Tinh) is grown according to organic standards. Thanks to ensuring technical processes, the orange trees are all full of fruit, with an estimated harvest of over 10 tons at the end of the season.
In early 2022, with the support of all levels, Mr. Duong Quoc Thanh's family in Hamlet 1 (Quang Tho Commune) converted 1 hectare of Doai oranges to organic standards. After nearly 2 years of application, in early November 2023, the family's orange garden was granted an organic certificate by Vinacontrol Inspection Company Limited, Ho Chi Minh City. This is considered a "passport", helping the family expand the market and increase economic value.
Mr. Duong Quoc Thanh said: Starting to produce organic oranges, my family has completely changed traditional production practices. Instead of using chemicals and fertilizers as before, my family has used composted manure with biological products to fertilize the plants. Thereby, adding organic matter, increasing humus to help improve and increase soil fertility...
According to Mr. Thanh, the biggest benefit of switching to organic processes is health. As a direct producer, not affected by chemicals, he feels healthier. He feels excited because customers get to use quality products that are good for their health.
In particular, the organic growing process helps plants to be strong, resistant to pests and diseases and not degenerate early like traditional growing methods. In addition, it helps to improve the quality and value of the product significantly.
"Previously, when the harvest season came, the family could only sell for 20,000 VND/kg, but now it has increased to 30-35,000 VND/kg, and it will increase even more at the end of the season. In addition, the orange yield is also outstanding, this season the family expects to harvest over 10 tons, 3 tons higher than previous years, so the family is very excited and confident in sticking with the organic process" - Mr. Thanh shared.

Organic production is a sustainable production method, bringing many benefits to Mr. Duong Quoc Thanh's family.
The golden oranges still covered in morning dew make visitors admire.
Mr. Thanh shared: Since the beginning of the season, the family has sold over 7 tons of fruit, earning over 200 million VND. About 3 tons have been ordered by regular customers for Tet, when the price will be higher. In addition to selling, the family also welcomes groups of visitors to visit and experience harvesting oranges in the garden and households to learn about organic orange growing experience.
With determination, perseverance, and patience to overcome difficulties, Mr. Duong Quoc Thanh and his wife have pioneered changes and spread farming methods towards sustainable agricultural production in the area.
Mr. Duong Quoc Thanh is an active and dynamic farmer, a pioneer in converting traditional production methods to sustainable organic ones. The success of the model has helped many farmers change their thinking and choose the direction of developing environmentally friendly organic agriculture. In the coming time, we will continue to encourage people to visit and learn from experiences to gradually expand the area of organic oranges. Thereby, not only contributing to increasing income for people but also enhancing the brand of Vu Quang oranges in the market.
