Nga Son develops household economy

Việt NamViệt Nam11/03/2024

Economic activities of farming households in Nga Son district are organized in a diverse, multi-sector and multi-occupational manner. Agricultural households have effectively transformed their occupations and crop and livestock structures with many systematic methods and the application of modern technology. Thanks to that, many household economic models have become bright spots in Nga Son district, contributing to creating jobs for thousands of local workers.

Nga Son develops household economy Model of growing Kim Hoang Hau melon in greenhouses and net houses of many households in Nga Lien commune (Nga Son).

After many years of struggling to find a new direction to develop the family economy, Mr. Dao Van Dong, in Nga Son town, has successfully built a model of a greenhouse for growing high-value vegetables and melons. Realizing that growing in a greenhouse completely controls the season, avoids extreme weather such as cold and heat that affect crops, and is almost pest-free. Mr. Dong has invested 5 billion VND to build a greenhouse, a greenhouse and installed a drip irrigation and misting system so that melons and vegetables have enough moisture and grow well all year round. To create prestige and easily find outlets for their products, his family has strictly followed the production process according to VietGAP. Currently, Mr. Dong's model generates an income of 2 billion VND/year, creating regular jobs for 8 workers, helping 3 poor households develop production.

Witnessing the success of greenhouse and net house farming models and the district's support mechanisms, currently 100% of communes and towns in the district have flourished in the high-tech agricultural production movement in net houses. As of early March 2024, Nga Son district has nearly 43.5 hectares of greenhouses and net houses, ranking second in the province in developing greenhouse and net house models for agricultural production. The cultivation value in these models has reached from 700 million to 1 billion VND/ha/year, dozens of times higher than traditional production models.

Along with the development of farming models, recently, many households in coastal communes of Nga Son district have boldly invested in high-tech aquaculture. Typically, Mr. Pham Van Hieu's household, village 4, Nga Tan commune, has invested billions of VND to build 5 floating tanks with roofs, with an area of 2,000m2 to raise white-leg shrimp. With modern farming technology, disease control and natural conditions, up to now, his family's white-leg shrimp farming model has gradually affirmed its effectiveness, earning billions of VND/year. From Mr. Hieu's model, currently in Nga Tan commune, there are 5 households boldly converting from extensive aquaculture to high-tech white-leg shrimp farming, with a total area of over 10 hectares. The intensive white-leg shrimp farming model applying high technology is forming a new, modern production method, improving the efficiency of aquaculture in Nga Tan commune.

From the effectiveness of economic models, Nga Son district is continuing to replicate new production models. In general, households are interested in choosing crops and livestock suitable to the potential and advantages of the region; actively applying technical advances, new technologies, advanced and modern farming methods. Many individuals boldly stand up to establish enterprises and cooperatives. Economic development is a condition for people to improve their material and spiritual lives, and participate in building new rural areas. Up to now, the whole district has 12,549 farming households achieving the title of good production and business. Of which, more than 8,200 households have an average income of 100 - 200 million VND/year, more than 3,520 households have an income of 200 - 300 million VND/year, 19 households have an income of 1 billion to 5 billion VND/year... However, besides the positive results, the implementation of household economic models still faces many difficulties, such as: most household models are small-scale; the production and business process is affected by many factors such as weather, epidemics, lack of capital, and technology. People are still confused in developing production and converting crop structure. Some households really want to convert production but do not have enough land and capital; prices are unstable, output is unstable. Many households want to expand production scale to create large raw material areas for processing but lack land; lack skills in developing production plans, business accounting, and industrial agricultural production style. Production is still following trends, not paying attention to factors related to food safety, environment, brands, product packaging designs...

To overcome the above shortcomings and limitations, in the coming time, Nga Son district will direct communes and towns to continue reviewing and developing plans to convert crop structures; seek production links to consume products, creating conditions for farmers to access preferential policy loans to invest, convert and expand production.

The models that bring economic efficiency have been gradually helping people in Nga Son district to get rich from agricultural production, contributing significantly to the implementation of the program of building advanced new rural areas, model new rural areas, and sustainable hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the locality.
