The missile launch was part of the final stage of the state testing program, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The new nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine Emperor Alexander III successfully launched the Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from the White Sea along the Kura training ground on the Kamchatka Peninsula.

The missile launch was carried out "in normal mode from an underwater position. The missile warhead reached the designated area at the set time".

The nuclear-powered strategic missile submarine Emperor Alexander III is a serially built ship at JSC PO Sevmash under the Borey-A Project, equipped with 16 Bulava ballistic missiles and modern torpedo weapons.

These nuclear submarines belong to the 4th generation and are part of the submarine force of the Northern and Pacific Fleets. Currently, the Russian Navy has 3 Borei-A missile submarines in service.

The Bulava missile is a Russian sea-launched ICBM, part of the D-30 launcher complex and designed to equip strategic missile-carrying submarines (SSBNs) of projects 09550, 09551 and 09552 "Borey" and "Borey-M".

The missile was developed by the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering. On January 10, 2013, Bulava was accepted and put into combat testing.
