New Zealand offers 18 scholarships worth 50% of tuition fees to Vietnamese students. In 2024, the new point is that candidates will be considered twice.
The New Zealand Government on January 18 announced the New Zealand Secondary School Scholarship (NZSS), offering 18 scholarships to students from Grade 8 to Grade 10, with Vietnamese nationality. The scholarship supports 50% of tuition fees for the first year at one of the country's 18 leading secondary schools.
"The scholarship is designed to help more Vietnamese students access and experience New Zealand's advanced education system," said Ben Burrowes, Asia Regional Director of Education New Zealand (ENZ).
What's new in this year's program is that candidates who do not qualify for the NZSS scholarship will be transferred to the school's scholarship consideration.

Students applying for the NZSS scholarship need to have a grade point average (GPA) of 8 or above, IELTS certificate (or 5.0 PTE 36/ TOEFL iBT 40/ Duolingo 85/ Cambridge B1 Preliminary 154).
In addition, applicants must submit a 1.5-minute video explaining why they deserve the scholarship. The video should include an introduction of themselves; a description of the skills they wish to study/improve in New Zealand; how a New Zealand education will prepare them for the future; and how students will adapt to the new learning environment.
The program accepts applications from January 22 to March 17.
NZSS was launched in 2019 and is the only New Zealand government scholarship programme for secondary school students. In 2023, 45 Vietnamese students will receive this scholarship.
