Despite 3 sessions of decline, the stock market still recorded a positive trading week with 2 sessions increasing by a total of more than 30 points, while the decrease was within a narrow range. Notably, the VN-Index increased by more than 18 points at the end of the week when the Securities Commission worked with FTSE Russell and Morgan Stanley to discuss upgrading the market.

At the end of the week, VN-Index increased by 21.49 points, equivalent to 1.7% to 1,276.6 points, HNX increased by 1.66 points, equivalent to 0.7% to 241.34 points and UPCOM increased by 0.6% to 90.21 points.

Last week, GAS decreased by 1.5%, VNM decreased by 1.8% and VCB decreased by 0.3%, putting pressure on the general index. On the contrary, BID increased by 6.4%, CTG increased by 8.1% and TCB increased by 4.9%, which were the main factors supporting the market's growth.

Investors are still cautious and proactively standing outside to observe the general developments, causing cash flow to decrease significantly. The average total trading volume on HoSE reached VND16,260 billion/session, down nearly 32% compared to last week.

Meanwhile, foreign investors continued to sell strongly despite some net buying sessions, but the value was not too large. In total, foreign investors sold net VND1,000 billion after 5 sessions last week.

Giving advice on investment decisions next week, Mr. Nguyen Anh Khoa - Head of Analysis and Research Department of Agriseco Securities Company and Mr. Bui Van Huy - Branch Director of DSC Securities Company suggested some promising industry groups such as banking, securities, industrial park real estate, and steel.

Finance - Banking - Stock market perspective April 15: Which stocks should you invest in to seize the opportunity?

VN-Index performance last week (Source: TradingView).

Nguoi Dua Tin (NDT): In your opinion, how will the market perform next week?

Mr. Nguyen Anh Khoa: In a positive scenario where large-cap stocks continue to lead, the VN-Index may return to an uptrend in the short term and will soon advance to the 1,290 (+-5) point zone next week. On the contrary, if demand increases weaker than expected, the VN-Index will likely retreat to the 1,250 zone and further to 1,235 points to find more demand to support market participation.

It is likely that cash flow will soon return next week and liquidity will improve as there has been a large fluctuation in points during the weekend session. Both supply and demand are likely to return soon where the tug-of-war is stronger.

Another positive point comes from the picture of the first quarter business results, which will be generally positive and achieve good growth above the low base of the same period. The reason comes from the expected recovery of domestic consumption demand; major export markets such as the US, EU, and China showing positive signs; financial costs are reduced in the context of interest rates remaining at low levels.

Mr. Bui Van Huy: Although the market increased well last week, I think that the positive signal of returning to the peak is thanks to the support of pillar stocks, while liquidity and breadth are still not convincing.

In terms of breadth, less than 40% of stocks on HoSE are currently maintaining a short-term uptrend, which is not positive. On the other hand, with a level of volatility that is not excessive, exchange rates, gold prices or foreign investors' movements will not have too much impact on the market.

The three main pillars of the market at present are the low interest rate environment and monetary easing; the second is the domestic economic recovery and the third is the expectation of market upgrade and KRX.

Investor : In your opinion, what should investors do next week? Can you suggest which industry groups have positive prospects during the earnings and shareholder meeting season?

Mr. Nguyen Anh Khoa: With the medium and long-term uptrend still being maintained, I recommend investors continue to hold medium and long-term positions in their portfolios. For short-term positions, only open new buy positions in 2 cases where VN-Index successfully tests the 1,270 - 1,275 zone to confirm the possibility of a short-term price increase or the main index retreats to the 1,235 zone to find a safer balance point.

I expect that industries and businesses with high profit growth in the first quarter of 2024 will create investment stories such as steel, rubber, securities, retail and livestock.

Mr. Bui Van Huy: The market may not have finished discounting new information at home and abroad and is likely to continue accumulating with low liquidity. Current support is around 1,240 - 1,250 points; strong resistance is around 1,280 - 1,300 and this is a threshold that is not easy to overcome in the short term.

The trend next week is still correction and accumulation, even if the index increases, liquidity and breadth will be difficult to spread.

Regarding trading strategy, in the current context with many short-term risk factors and the market may not have fully discounted the information, the stock ratio should be maintained at a moderate level, while avoiding a state of tension, especially limiting the use of high leverage.

During the earnings season, sectors with positive prospects such as banking, securities, industrial real estate, upstream oil and gas, import and export or steel can be considered. However, increasing the proportion should only be done in the price base areas, avoiding buying excitedly in the high price area .
