Enhancing the position of Quang Tri sports

Quang Tri high-performance sports are making strong strides thanks to the high efficiency in selection, training, coaching and competition results. In particular, many athletes have been called up to the youth team and the Vietnam national team to compete successfully in regional and international arenas. Quang Tri province has also made a strong mark in successfully hosting many national and international sports tournaments, thereby contributing to bringing the position of Quang Tri sports to new heights.

Impressive achievements

In recent years, with the focus on investing in sports in the national tournament system, SEA Games, ASIAD, Olympics, high-performance sports, Quang Tri has achieved many proud results. The province's key sports such as athletics, rowing, badminton, wrestling... are among the top in the country in terms of achievements as well as having many athletes wearing the youth team and national team jerseys.

Coach Tran Thanh Hiep, Provincial Athletics Team, said that with the attention of provincial leaders, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH,TT&DL), and the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, the Athletics department has developed strongly in many aspects, in which the most prominent is the javelin throw event.

The Javelin Throwing Team currently has 8 athletes, of which, the most prominent is athlete Nguyen Huu Toan, who won 1 Gold Medal (HCV) at the 9th National Sports Congress - 2022, 1 Gold Medal at the National Athletics Championship in 2023, 1 Gold Medal at the Ho Chi Minh City Open Athletics Championship in 2023..., currently a national Athletics athlete. Quang Tri also has another talented athlete, Phan Van Anh Kiet, with outstanding achievements such as winning 1 Gold Medal in Javelin Throw at the National Youth Athletics Championship in 2023, 1 Gold Medal at the Southeast Asian Student Sports Festival in 2024..., currently a member of the Vietnam Youth Athletics team.

Director of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center Le Do Nhu Hoai said that high-performance sports are identified as a key and central task in the orientation of Quang Tri sports development.

The Center has proactively developed investment plans and improved the performance of high-performance sports at national and international tournaments; created appropriate policies and remuneration mechanisms for coaches and athletes. Many coaches have been sent for training and professional development.

Sports facilities have been invested in and built to basically meet the needs of athletes for training and competition; apply science in training and nutrition for athletes; do a good job of medical care, recovery, injury treatment, political and ideological education, cultural studies... for athletes.

The center builds teams to participate in national sports tournaments, thereby creating the best opportunities for athletes to learn, compete, gain experience, improve their competitive spirit as well as help coaches re-evaluate training work to make changes, aiming for higher achievements.

The Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center currently trains more than 100 athletes in 7 sports: Rowing, Badminton, Athletics, Wrestling, Karate, Weightlifting and Swimming. In 2024, the provincial sports teams participated in 31 national high-performance sports tournaments, winning 25 gold medals, 32 silver medals, 35 bronze medals and 4 international sports tournaments, winning 3 gold medals, 6 silver medals, 2 bronze medals.

Quang Tri Sports is proud to have many excellent athletes competing for the Vietnamese team such as athletes Ho Thi Ly, Le Thi Hien and members of the Vietnamese Rowing Team won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal at ASIAD 2018; athlete Vo Thi Kim Chi won 1 gold medal at the 2022 Southeast Asian Wrestling Championship; athlete Ha Ngoc Linh Nhi won 1 gold medal at the 2023 Asian Youth Rowing Championship... Quang Tri is owning a new generation of young athletes such as Nguyen Huu Toan, Phan Van Anh Kiet (athletics), Tran Thi Thu Hang (Rowing)... who are working hard every day in training to gain many new impressive achievements, bringing glory to the homeland's sports.

Hosting national tournament - positive effects

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Minh Tuan said that in the past 5 years, Quang Tri has become an attractive destination for many national sports tournaments. Leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Physical Training and Sports and organizations, units, heads of delegations, coaches and athletes highly appreciated the provincial sports sector in coordinating the organization of many successful and impressive national and international sports tournaments.

The clearest evidence is that in 2024, Quang Tri province will host and successfully coordinate the organization of the National Individual Badminton Championship, the National Youth Indoor Volleyball Championship, the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire, the "Cycling for Peace" Festival... Quang Tri province and Tien Phong Newspaper and related units have completed preparations to organize the 66th Tien Phong Newspaper National Marathon and Long Distance Championship in 2025 - "Triumph".

The success in organizing national-level sports tournaments affirms that Quang Tri province has sufficient facilities, staff, coaches, referees, security forces, medical staff, etc. to meet the requirements of organizing tournaments; Quang Tri people love sports, are friendly, hospitable and always cheer for the athletes.

From there, it brings positive effects in enhancing the position of Quang Tri sports in the national sports scene; helping the provincial sports team improve their professional skills; people can watch top competitions directly; at the same time, it is an opportunity to introduce and promote the beautiful image of the land and people of Quang Tri.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Phan Van Hoa, in addition to high-performance sports, the province also pays attention to investing in the development of mass sports. It is the interest of the provincial sports sector in the socialization of sports that has created the initial environment to nurture and train young talents and help them have the opportunity to realize their dream of playing professionally.

Sports talents with good starting points from their hometowns have shone in national and international tournaments, typically: Truong Van Thai Quy (football); Nguyen Van Nam (volleyball), Nguyen Khanh Ly, Bien Van Anh (athletics)... Besides, there are many athletes from Quang Tri who are national players of Vietnam such as: Hoang Xuan Vinh (shooting), Nguyen Anh Duc (football), Le Duc Phat (badminton), Luong Duc Phuoc (athletics), Phan Manh Linh (Rowing), Nguyen Chi Khanh (e-sports)... have made many impressive contributions, contributing to raising the position of Vietnamese sports in the international sports arena.
