Improve competitiveness, promote the potential of OCOP products

Quang Ninh province has been implementing synchronous solutions to enhance the value, competitiveness and potential of OCOP products.

After more than 10 years of implementation, the OCOP Program has spread widely to localities throughout the province, creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere and becoming an important highlight to improve the quality and quantity of the National Target Program on New Rural Development. Up to now, Quang Ninh province has 417 OCOP products from 13 localities achieving 3-5 stars. In particular, there are products from ethnic minorities, remote areas, islands, etc. To encourage and motivate organizations and individuals to participate in building OCOP products, the OCOP Steering Committee and localities have been implementing many timely support and guidance solutions. Priority is given to support for subjects after being recognized as OCOP with 3 stars or higher, with small production scale, difficulty in meeting the market demand, to continue to maintain, improve, enhance production capacity, ensure quantity and quality to meet market demand.

At the same time, actively guide the subjects to upgrade the product. To upgrade from 3 stars to 4 stars, the subjects need to invest, improve the production line, process, packaging, upgrade packaging... In the case of upgrading from 4 stars to 5 stars, it is necessary to build a stable source of raw materials, professional production, have a product distribution system on a national scale and have products accepted by the world market. Along with that, Quang Ninh province pays special attention to trade promotion activities, connecting supply and demand for OCOP products. Currently, the whole province has 23 points of introduction and sale of OCOP products and 161 websites registered and notified of sales to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In the first 6 months of the year, the province organized 2 provincial-level OCOP fairs, 12 fairs in the province, participated in 4 domestic and foreign trade promotion programs. According to statistics, the fairs attracted over 120,000 visitors to visit and shop, the revenue of local booths in the whole province reached 12 billion VND. Not only stopping at trade promotion, the management and supervision of the quality of OCOP products are always of interest to functional sectors. Every year, Quang Ninh province organizes a conference to evaluate and classify OCOP products to review products that do not ensure quality; At the same time, encourage entities to improve their products according to standards, have beautiful, modern packaging designs, and easy traceability...

Recently, the Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office organized a contest to create packaging, product labels, gift baskets and OCOP product stories with the participation of 16 units and authors with 68 OCOP products achieving from 3 to 5 stars. This is the first time the contest has been organized, thereby promoting innovation in packaging design, product labels and thereby attracting consumers, increasing competition in the market. Mr. Nguyen Van Vong, Deputy Head of the Provincial New Rural Area Coordination Office said: “The contest is an opportunity for subjects to improve and enhance the aesthetics and quality of products. Through this contest, we hope to create gift baskets including local OCOP products; improve the quality of packaging and labels, create competitive advantages; build stories associated with the origin of the products, demonstrating the tradition and culture of each region”.
