Mytel ensures communication after earthquake in Myanmar

Immediately after the 7.7-magnitude earthquake occurred in Myanmar on March 28, 2025 (local time), causing serious damage to people and property, Mytel - Viettel's brand in Myanmar quickly deployed response measures, demonstrating the spirit of commitment and responsibility of Vietnamese people in the host country.

Just hours after the earthquake occurred, Mytel launched an emergency support campaign for about 4 million customers in 98 districts (townships) across the country.

Each customer in the affected area was promptly supported with 1GB of data, 300 minutes of calls and 300 SMS messages to help people contact their relatives and receive updates from the government and rescue agencies. Mobile charging points were also organized by Mytel in many heavily affected areas, helping people stay connected during widespread power outages.

MyTel is currently assessing the extent of damage to its telecommunications infrastructure. Although some stations and transmission towers may have been affected, no official figures have been released yet.

In particular, Mytel engineers, technicians and staff worked through the night to ensure that the telecommunications network was not interrupted. Dozens of mobile broadcasting stations were deployed, backup equipment was activated to maintain the communications infrastructure, serve rescue work and support the community. In addition, Mytel also organized 45 points to support essential items including 10,000 meals for people and will continue to expand in the coming time.

The earthquake forced the Myanmar government to issue an urgent appeal for aid from the international community. In such circumstances, Mytel’s quick and practical actions not only helped to reduce some of the concerns of the Myanmar people but also demonstrated the spirit of the Vietnamese people for the international community./.
