On March 8, Honduran Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina said that the country has reached important agreements with the United States on the issue of migration and is handling the issue frankly and positively through bilateral channels.

Foreign Minister Reina stressed that migration is Honduras' top concern, and that migrants' dignity and human rights are respected. In negotiations with the United States, Honduras insisted on ensuring that the repatriation process is carried out in an orderly and safe manner.
Earlier, Honduras announced that it would become a “humanitarian transit” point for the repatriation of 170 Venezuelan migrants deported by the US. Honduran President Xiomara Castro also reached an agreement with Washington to restore the extradition treaty between the two countries.
The US State Department assessed that Honduras had made a "wise decision" and considered this very important in the common fight against drug trafficking and transnational crime.
Regarding regional cooperation, Foreign Minister Reina said that currently each country in Latin America and the Caribbean will handle the migration issue in its own way, but reaching a common consensus in the region is equally important.
