Linh Son Thanh Mau Festival - Ba Den Mountain

If Hung Temple has the Ancestor's Death Anniversary, Tran Temple has the Seal Opening Ceremony, Ba Chua Kho Temple has the "borrowing money, asking for luck" ceremony at the beginning of the year, then at Ba Den Mountain, Tay Ninh, the Linh Son Thanh Mau Festival (commonly called the Ba Festival) is the biggest and most important festival for the people of the South.

Linh Son Holy Mother Festival 2023

Associated with the legend of Linh Son Thanh Mau, the Via Ba festival is held annually in the first days of the 5th lunar month at Ba Den Mountain. Over the centuries, with its unique spiritual and cultural values, the festival has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage and is an event that attracts a large number of domestic and foreign tourists.

During the two-day event "Tay Ninh Day in Hanoi", the capital's people will be able to admire the solemn and unique rituals of the Via Ba festival at the photo exhibition and through vivid films introducing the beauty of Ba Den mountain - one of the sacred acupuncture points of the country.

This is a type of folk dance of the Khmer people, which has existed and developed for hundreds of years in Tay Ninh province and is recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage.

This unique art form requires the synchronization between the actor's movements and the sound, with movements that are sometimes as strong as martial arts, sometimes as graceful as beautiful dances. The Chhay Dam drum dancer is not only like a dancer, but also not much different from a martial artist with his stance , somersaults, sometimes using his hands, sometimes using his elbows, sometimes using his heels to beat the drum.

Chhay dam drum dance is often performed during Khmer holidays in Tay Ninh and major festivals on Ba Den mountain such as Ba Mountain Spring Festival (January), Khmer Chol Chnam Thmay festival, April 30th holiday, National Day September 2nd...

Witnessing the graceful dances of Tay Ninh Khmer artists and trying the Chhay dam drum dance with the artists right in the heart of Hoan Kiem Lake walking street will be a particularly interesting experience for people in the capital during the upcoming weekend of October 7-8.

Southern amateur music

Hundreds of years ago, Don Ca Tai Tu was formed from ritual music and Hue royal court music. However, what makes Don Ca Tai Tu attractive is its simplicity, elegance and closeness, where the artists can be artisans or anyone who knows how to play on idle days. Dan Kim, Dan Co, Dan Tranh and Dan Bau combine to create a unique quartet sound for Don Ca Tai Tu.

Found in 21 southern provinces, Don Ca Tai Tu is a typical folk performance recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage representing humanity, and is also an indispensable spiritual food for the people of the South. Traveling throughout the provinces of the East and West of the South, tourists can listen to Don Ca Tai Tu anywhere, in the gardens, outdoor stages or at a roadside stall.

During the Tay Ninh Day in Hanoi 2023 event, visitors will not only get to listen to Tay Ninh artists recreate this unique Southern melody, but can also try their hand at singing Southern folk songs with the artists - one of the interesting experiences that promises to attract many visitors at the event.

Tay Ninh shrimp salt

Tay Ninh shrimp salt stalls always attract a lot of tourists at the Tay Ninh Day event in Hanoi. It can be seen that we do not have to wait until 2023, when the shrimp salt making profession is recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, for Tay Ninh shrimp salt to become famous throughout the country.

The three main ingredients that are indispensable in this specialty salt are dried shrimp, coarse salt, and chili powder. The ingredients will be ground, lemongrass and garlic added in a certain ratio. The final step is to roast on a hot pan, which is also the most complicated step to complete the delicious salt dish. Just like that, the salty and spicy taste mixed with the sweet aroma of shrimp and the flavor of fried onions and garlic create the unmistakable flavor of Tay Ninh shrimp salt.

Tay Ninh specialty shrimp salt

At first, chili salt and shrimp salt were sent into the forest by women and mothers in the rear to supply revolutionary soldiers. After liberation, salt was no longer only used with rice but also to dip fruit. Pilgrims who came to worship Ba Den Mountain and visit the Cao Dai Holy See found it delicious and bought it as a gift. Delicious food is remembered for a long time, so Tay Ninh shrimp salt became famous, developing into a profession passed down through many generations. Anyone who goes to Tay Ninh and returns without a jar of shrimp salt is missing out on a special spice that is only available in this borderland.

Trang Bang dew-dried rice paper

Trang Bang area with sunny days, foggy nights and the technical skills of making double-layered rice cakes, baking them, and drying them in the dew, passed down from generation to generation, has formed a unique traditional craft village and a famous dish of Tay Ninh.

Rice paper making village in Tay Ninh

To get a delicious rice paper, the baker must go through many steps, from selecting rice, washing rice, soaking rice, grinding flour, mixing flour, carefully calculating the time and dosage so that the cake is soft, white, and chewy. The most elaborate is drying the cake in the dew, waiting until dawn for about 1-2 hours before pressing, cutting the edges, and wrapping it to keep the softness, sponginess, and chewiness of the cake.

Recognized as an intangible cultural heritage in 2016, Trang Bang rice paper making is the pride of Tay Ninh. Displayed at booths during Tay Ninh Day in Hanoi, Trang Bang rice paper will certainly be an attractive border gift for people in the capital to attend.
