Candidates participating in university and college entrance exams this year
Should I register for more than 100 wishes?
Dr. Nguyen Van Kha, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Communications Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, said that up to now, candidates have had more than 15 days to choose and consider registering their admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's system. "Last year, there were a few candidates who registered more than 100 wishes. I think this is unnecessary because in the end, candidates only passed 1 wish," said Dr. Kha.
According to Mr. Kha, to be safe, candidates only need to register for 5-7 wishes. Besides the reason of having to pay the admission fee of 20,000 VND for each wish, choosing too many wishes also dilutes the choices. "Please feel free to register at this time. If there are any problems, contact the hotline of the Ministry of Education and Training or the universities you want to register for admission for further advice," Mr. Kha advised.
Mr. Vu Quang Huy, Deputy Director of the Admissions Consulting Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said: "In the past few days, the school has received many candidates and parents, some of whom are very worried and confused because they do not fully understand the registration techniques. At this point, students need to try to learn each step to perform it most accurately, and not make any mistakes, no matter how small."
Regarding registration time, Mr. Huy analyzed: "At this time, candidates do not have much time to make a decision. It can be said that this is the best time to register and until the last days from July 28-30, candidates only review their registered wishes. Experience from last year showed that many candidates waited until the last day to access, causing the system to be overloaded."
Candidates have the right to register for many wishes, but according to this expert, candidates should only focus on 3-5 wishes. The most important thing is to arrange the order of wishes, including wishes that have been admitted early to universities. "Candidates should not register for too many wishes because the more they register, the more confused they will be," Mr. Huy advised.

Regarding the admission floor score, Dr. Nguyen Van Kha said that up to this point, most universities have completed announcing the minimum score for receiving applications based on the high school graduation exam results. In addition to the floor score, candidates should refer to the standard scores of previous years, especially last year, to consider arranging their wishes.
Dr. Kha emphasized: "The floor score and benchmark scores of schools are often at different levels. In particular, the benchmark scores of traditional strong or key majors of schools can be 2-3 points higher than the floor score, even 4 points. Therefore, to be safe, candidates should choose majors with lower floor scores."
"If the exam score is equal to the floor score in traditional strong majors, candidates should choose additional majors with a floor score 1-2 points lower than the exam score. Then, if they do not pass their first choice, candidates still have a chance in the following choices," Mr. Kha gave an example.
Mr. Vu Quang Huy added: "Candidates need to note that the floor score is very different from the standard score. From that floor score, candidates are eligible to apply. But depending on the recruitment quota and the number of registered candidates, schools will consider candidates from high to low until they meet the quota. The lowest score of a candidate admitted to the school is the standard score. Therefore, it is very difficult to accurately predict the standard score for each major at this time."
Therefore, according to the Deputy Director of the Admissions Consulting Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, candidates need to have additional backup plans. Specifically, candidates should add additional wishes that match their abilities or take advantage of other admission methods.
Answering a candidate's question about the chance of admission when achieving 18 points based on the high school graduation exam results, a representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology replied: "Last year, the school's lowest admission score was 18, so this year it can be said that this score is dangerous. You should take advantage of other admission methods, not just focus on considering high school graduation exam scores."
Giving general advice to candidates, Mr. Huy said: "Candidates who have been admitted to schools with their transcripts and want to register for admission only need to register their first choice. If candidates have other wishes, they should still put their early admission wish in their next choice."
