As someone who is actually working in the field of AI (artificial intelligence), Ms. Pham Van Anh, an AI trainer expert at startup Unikon, said that some courses in this field, regardless of the price, bring very little benefit to learners. VietNamNet would like to send her article to readers.
ChatGPT was just launched by OpenAI in November 2022. After more than a year, the race between the giants with the launch of a series of AI tools has proven that it is not just a fever, but an inevitable trend, a tool that will be increasingly widely applied in all fields.
The need to learn how to use and make the most of this tool is completely legitimate and is increasing. Partly to increase work efficiency, but a large part, in my opinion, is to avoid being eliminated when more and more jobs can be replaced by AI. You either have to become a tool user, or be replaced by the tool.
In Vietnam, with its tradition of quick and creative thinking, I saw two types of services explode almost immediately: creating GPT accounts and training on how to use ChatGPT. The courses that initially appeared were quite cheap, only from 500,000 - 1,000,000 VND for a few online lessons, with a bonus of 5,000 "prompt" sentences (commands for ChatGPT).
According to information online and shared by friends, there are currently many courses that cost up to 10 million VND. But as someone who is “in action” in the AI field, I am almost certain that these courses, regardless of the price, bring very little benefit to learners.
The first reason comes from the instructor. In my observation, very few people who open AI training courses have degrees and formal training in this field. Most of the classes are opened by people working in the content marketing industry. With the advantage of being quick to adapt to new technology, using good language and having a large number of followers, they quickly grasp the demand and open a series of AI courses. Therefore, the most valuable knowledge about AI that you can learn in these courses will probably be 5,000 sample prompts. In fact, you still don't understand anything about AI, and most likely can't apply AI in your personal work.
The second reason comes from the learners. ChatGPT or other AI tools today, such as Gemini, Midjourney... are all designed to be extremely user-friendly, you only need to know basic English. Therefore, what people who want to learn about AI lack the most is not the basics of what AI is, how to create an account, how to use it... What they lack the most, and no course teaches, is the foundation of AI technology, how it was born, what its nature is, its potential applications...
Back to the story of "give a fishing rod or give a fish", if you want to apply AI in your work to the maximum extent, you need to know how they make a fishing rod, while the courses in Vietnam today have not yet reached the level of giving you a fish.
To apply AI at a basic level, meeting the need to increase personal work efficiency, you need to improve your language and logical thinking skills - the "communication channels" with AI. The more precisely you describe your requirements, the more the AI results will satisfy your wishes. AI tools are all designed as "personal assistants", responsible for providing answers and instructions to users, so you can directly ask ChatGPT, Gemini... how to use them effectively.
On the other hand, for difficult topics such as applying AI in human resource management, recruitment, in specific marketing campaigns, in accounting..., at least there needs to be coordination between a programmer (coder), a person who is good at this field and a prompter (a person who specializes in writing commands for AI) - the latter two can be one, preferably one. Anyone can and should become a prompter .
To be able to use AI well at work, you need to: practice to understand your expertise as well as possible; improve your language skills and logical thinking (you can command AI in any language, but due to the loose nature of Vietnamese grammar, if you are not good at Vietnamese, AI will likely misunderstand your commands); practice: like any other tool, the more you communicate with AI, the more fluent you will be at using it.
