Huu Nghi International Border Gate (Lang Son province) in the last days of 2023 recorded positive trade between Vietnam and China.

Recently, Huu Nghi International Border Gate, along with 5 other border gates in Lang Son, are operating, including Dong Dang International Railway Station Border Gate, Chi Ma main border gate, Tan Thanh, Coc Nam, Na Hinh sub-border gates, with an average traffic volume of import and export goods reaching 1,200 vehicles/day (peak up to more than 1,300 vehicles/day). Of which, about 350-400 are export vehicles (agricultural products and fruits account for about 70%), 750-800 are import vehicles.

Total import-export turnover of all types of goods in the 11 months of 2023 reached over 46 billion USD, an increase of 110.33% over the same period in 2022.

During Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to China and attendance at the World Economic Forum in Tianjin (China), the Chairman of the People's Committee of Lang Son province and the Chairman of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region signed the "Framework Agreement between the People's Committee of Lang Son province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, People's Republic of China on jointly promoting the pilot construction of smart border gates".

After receiving the Prime Minister's approval, the People's Committee of Lang Son province directed the development of a pilot project to build a smart border gate on the specialized route for transporting goods in the area of ​​landmarks 1119-1120 and the customs clearance area of ​​landmarks 1088/2-1089 at the Huu Nghi - Huu Nghi Quan international border gate, Lang Son province. The province has consulted with relevant ministries and branches, completed the project and submitted it to the Prime Minister in Document No. 150/TTr-UBND dated September 30, 2023.

The smart border gate model is a new freight forwarding model, applying science, technology, and modern machinery to the automatic delivery process, applying unmanned transportation methods moving along fixed routes and automated container cranes, based on satellite positioning and 5G technology. The model is regulated through a command center and exchanges information back and forth on cross-border freight transport.

According to the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone, in order to further deepen the economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and China, Lang Son province will focus on synchronous investment in border infrastructure, prioritizing the selection of border gate areas with conditions for rapid development to create momentum and regional linkages in border trade activities; Focus on directing the acceleration of the completion of key projects serving import and export activities, such as expanding the Huu Nghi International Border Gate area, building a Goods Transit Area, a Duty Free Zone, etc.

Lang Son province will also increase contact, exchange and cooperation activities between Party committees and authorities of the two provinces/regions, promote cooperation in key areas such as economy, trade, construction of traffic connections, upgrading border gates... to ensure stability and safety in the border area. "Promote the effectiveness of the exchange mechanism, coordinate the implementation of memorandums of understanding, framework agreements, programs... signed between authorities at all levels, border localities, on economic and trade management and development, first of all building a smart border gate model", said a representative of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone Management Board.

Huu Nghi International Border Gate is the connecting point of the Nanning - Hanoi Expressway, an important bridge in developing economic relations between Vietnam and China. The border gate is also the starting point of National Highway 1 (in Dong Dang town, Cao Loc district, Lang Son province), 17km north of Lang Son city, 171km northeast of Hanoi.
