David Beckham has earned tens of millions of dollars from his personal business brand. However, 2024 was not a perfect year as the former football star was once again unlucky with a knighthood.
Earn tens of millions of dollars
On December 30, DRJB Holdings, the parent company that owns all of the business brands of David Beckham, released its annual financial report. To be clear, the group includes David Beckham Ventures Limited, which holds the majority of the former footballer's brand and licensing revenue, media production company Studio 99 and business holding company Seven Global LLP.
According to The Guardian , David Beckham Brands has recorded significant business results for the year. Specifically, DRBJ Holdings recorded revenue of $91.2 million (72.3 million pounds) in 2023, up 2% compared to 2022.
David Beckham Ventures Limited's profit increased by 17.9% thanks to its continued partnership with Authentic Brands, the report said.
Studio 99 Group's revenue rose to $15m (£11.9m) thanks to the production and release of a Beckham documentary series for Netflix in October 2023.
DRBJ Holdings revealed a jump in total pre-tax profit to $36.2m (£28.7m) from $16.2m (£12.8m) in 2022.
With the business thriving, DRBJ Holdings paid $28.5 million (£22.6 million) in dividends to shareholders in 2023. In early 2024, the group paid a further $51 million (£40.5 million) in dividends.
The money was split equally among shareholders in proportion to their holdings. After selling part of his empire to Authentic Brands two years ago, David Beckham now owns 45% of the shares. That means the former footballer pocketed around $36 million (£28.6 million).
The former footballer born in 1975 is not the only financial winner in the Beckham family. In August, the fashion and beauty business of Victoria Beckham bucking the overall luxury industry downturn with sales rising 52% to £89.1 million ($111.8 million) by 2023.
Together, the combined turnover of David and Victoria's businesses is expected to reach more than £160 million (nearly $201 million) by 2023.
According to the latest Sunday Times rich list, Mr and Mrs Becks have an estimated net worth of £455 million (over $571 million).
No knighthood
While having a good year financially, David Beckham once again missed out on the spiritual gift he has longed for - a knighthood. British Royal Family.
According to Daily Mail , David was removed from the New Year's Honours list due to King Charles Approved. More significantly, one of the latest British citizens to be knighted is Gareth Southgate, Beckham's former teammate on the England national football team. Southgate earned the honour after leading the Three Lions to the Euro final in Germany in the summer of 2024 as coach.
“This is a huge joy for Gareth and David is delighted for him. David knows it's not his time. He's fine with that but you never know what's going to happen,” the source told MailOnline .
Before that, many signs showed that David's dream of being called Sir was about to come true.
At the beginning of the year, the former footballer was appointed as an ambassador for the British Royal charity King's Foundation.
Sir Rod Stewart also touched on the subject this summer when he attended the first King's Foundation Awards in London with his wife, Penny Lancaster. The 79-year-old rock star was knighted in 2016.
“Penny and I are honoured to be ambassadors for the King’s Trust. I am also honoured to be knighted. David, your knighthood is coming soon,” Mr Stewart said.
In early December, the former England captain and his wife, Victoria Beckham, were invited to a state dinner at Buckingham Palace for the first time. They were seen alongside King Charles and Queen Camilla at a banquet to celebrate the state visit of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
As a royalist, knighthood was something of a lifelong obsession for David, a dream that only grew stronger after he was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2003.
On at least two occasions David expressed extreme disappointment at being left off the British King's list.
In a leaked 2013 email, he vented his anger at Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins after being denied a knighthood: “What the hell did Katherine Jenkins get an OBE for? Singing at rugby stadiums and going to military parades, plus taking cocaine. What a joke.”
In February 2017, further leaked emails revealed David calling committee members “ungrateful bastards” and declaring he had no interest in being knighted.
At that time, David was disqualified due to tax evasion allegations. It was not until 2021 that he was cleared. By the end of the year, David Beckham was in a never-ending mess.
