On January 3, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics Vinh Long Branch held a ceremony to celebrate its 5th anniversary and officially converted its regional scale to UEH Mekong.
Attending the event were Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc - Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Professor Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong - Chairman of UEH Council; Professor Dr. Su Dinh Thanh - Director of UEH, along with leaders of Vinh Long province and localities in the Mekong Delta.
At the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc said that recently the ministry has had a policy of rearranging ineffective local colleges according to the branch model of major universities.
“When we merge into a university branch, we will have greater potential, brand, and reputation. This will fully exploit the facilities and strengths, meeting training goals. The most important thing is to train high-quality human resources for the locality and region.
Some localities, after working with the ministry, have withdrawn their intention to establish provincial universities. Instead, they have established branches of major universities. This will help save resources, reduce financial burdens, and meet training needs. This is an outstanding advantage,” said Mr. Phuc.
With the positive results that UEH Vinh Long has achieved after 5 years, Mr. Phuc suggested 6 more key issues that UEH Mekong needs to focus on for development in the coming period.
That is to effectively implement the central resolutions and the Prime Minister's directives on education development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
At the same time, develop to become a research center, providing innovative solutions for the Mekong Delta region and the Mekong sub-region countries. Continue to maintain and implement well policies to support learners. Promote digital transformation in education and administration...
Within 5 years, UEH Vinh Long has had 3,000 students at all levels. The training program has increased from 6 initial programs to 15 programs. The student population has increased from 223 to 2,180 in 2024, meeting the labor market needs of the region.
Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh said that the branch will start a new journey with a bigger role and wider operating space. That is a UEH Mekong, for a sustainable Mekong Delta and Mekong sub-region.
To carry out this mission, UEH Mekong will synchronously deploy 5 training programs, human development; scientific research, applied research and consulting; construction and operation of green spaces; research, development, application of optimal governance and management systems and promote connections between state management agencies, businesses, experts, scientists and domestic and international communities.
